Johnson and Johnson Vaccine Update

Environmental Health

Dear Food and Agriculture partners,

LA County has resumed use of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine. After a careful safety review, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)  have determined the J&J vaccine to be safe and effective in preventing COVID-19. Vaccine experts concluded that based on the available information, the chance of developing the unusual types of blood clots is very low. Vaccine providers with J&J doses should distribute the updated fact sheets to vaccine recipients and Public Health will be updating safety information about the vaccine shortly.

The three vaccines that are currently available through the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) remain the most powerful tools we have in reducing transmission, preventing serious illness and death, and eventually ending the COVID-19 pandemic. We encourage anyone eligible to make an appointment as soon as they can by visiting  www.VaccinateLACounty.com (English) and www.VacunateLosAngeles.com (Spanish).

We’re pleased to share the COVID-19 Vaccine Newsletter and encourage you to distribute it with your employees and others who might interested in receiving this information
