The pandemic has devastated homeowners in LA County who have been unable to make monthly mortgage payments and are now on the brink of foreclosure.
As a result of a motion that I and Supervisor Hahn authored, I am proud to announce that LA County, in partnership with the Neighborhood Housing Services Center for Economic Recovery, has launched its Foreclosure Prevention & Mortgage Relief Program. The program will provide foreclosure counseling and up to $20,000 in financial relief to LA County residents, excluding the City of LA, that experienced financial distress between March 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.
Applications are now open!

The COVID-19 vaccine did not arrive in time for over 23,000 Los Angeles County residents who lost their lives to this virus. I recognize that the last thing any family or loved one should have to contend with is the significant costs that funeral services can carry. That is why I authored a motion to direct County Departments to assess whether we could utilize federal funding to reimburse residents for funeral costs for those who lost a loved one to COVID-19.
I am proud to share that as of yesterday, LA County has partnered with the federal government to launch the COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Program to reimburse residents for up to $9,000 for those who lost a loved one to COVID-19, retroactive to January 20, 2020.
To be eligible for funeral assistance, LA County residents must meet the following:
- The death must have occurred in the United States, including the U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia.
- The death certificate must indicate the death was attributed to COVID-19.
- The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or a qualified non-citizen who incurred funeral expenses after January 20, 2020.
LA County encourages eligible applicants to call FEMA's Funeral Assistance Line at 844-684-6333 (TTY) 800-462-7585 9 a.m. to 9 p.m, or visit FEMA.gov for additional information.
