Dear Friends,
We reached several milestones this week in our ongoing battle against the pandemic. On March 16, we marked the one-year anniversary since LA County's Safer at Home Order was first implemented. We have sacrificed so much to save our family members and our neighbors, and we have mourned the loss of people who have fallen to COVID. Yet, despite what we have gone through this past year, we are now entering a new era of hope.
From LA County's transition into the red tier to the expansion of groups eligible for the vaccine, there is so much to look forward to in the weeks ahead. But as we work to re-open our communities, I urge us all to remain cautious and continue to take care of one another by wearing a mask, socially distancing and washing our hands. Our hard-earned efforts can quickly unravel if we let our guard down now.
I have faith that our communities will continue to do the right thing and that we will continue on this positive trajectory reducing community transmission and COVID-19 cases. I am committed to curbing those numbers by increasing access to vaccination sites as you will see below. As always if you have any questions, comments or feedback, you can always reach my office. We are here to serve you.
Sincerely,
Chair Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District

On Wednesday, I joined a multi-racial coalition of community organizations, faith-based organizations and leaders to once again denounce the surge of hate crime against targeted against the AAPI community throughout this pandemic. This week's horrific shooting where eight lives were violently taken, including six Asian women illustrate that there is still work to do to combat white supremacy against the AAPI community. It is unacceptable, but we know that words are not enough. That is why authored a motion which recently passed to expand the County’s Anti-Hate program to combat hate against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. I strongly encourage those who have experienced or witnessed an act of hate to consider reporting your story through the 211 hotline or the website StopAAPIHate.org.

This week, I was proud to participate in LA County's 100th food distribution in partnership with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, the Los Angeles Department of Parks & Recreation, and County of Los Angeles Emergency Operations Center!
Through this partnership, we’ve served 10 million pounds of food to community members facing food insecurity since the pandemic started. Together, we are committed to meeting the immediate food needs of our community as we work to come out of the pandemic. We recognize that many families and individuals are still struggling to provide food on their tables and we will continue to support them. If you are in need of food resources, please call 2-1-1 or visit 211la.org/food-resources.
