The City of Irvine Opens the Jeffrey Open Space Trail Bicycle & Pedestrian Bridge
The City of Irvine celebrated the opening of the Jeffrey Open Space Trail Bicycle & Pedestrian Bridge Tuesday, August 11, providing a key link in Irvine’s trail network.
At nearly 1,200 feet long and 15 feet wide, the bridge is the largest pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Irvine, spanning Walnut Avenue, the Jeffrey Road Park & Ride, and I-5 Freeway.
The bridge connects the Jeffrey Open Space Trail and Cypress Village Trail to the north with the JOST extension to the south, completing a vital 5-mile corridor and improving access for people walking and biking throughout Irvine and beyond.
The connection is part of a larger regional trail network extending from the Pacific Ocean to the Santa Ana Mountains and Cleveland National Forest.

Share Your Input on Oak Creek Community Park Improvements
The City of Irvine invites the community to provide input on planned improvements to Oak Creek Community Park Tuesday, August 18, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the City of Irvine Operations Support Facility.
Since opening in 2001, Oak Creek Community Park has been a go-to spot for play and outdoor recreation. Proposed enhancements would build on that legacy, replacing the existing playground with new play equipment, safety surfacing, and sand play features, as well as adding outdoor exercise areas with new fitness equipment.
Attendees can review design concepts, explore playground and fitness equipment options, and share feedback to help inform the final design.
The City of Irvine Operations Support Facility is located at 6427 Oak Canyon.

Celebrate the Final Summer in the City Events

Join us this weekend for the final Summer in the City events.
Enjoy Movies on the Lawn featuring Zootopia 2 Friday, August 14, at Hicks Canyon Community Park. Food trucks arrive and family-friendly activities begin at 6:30 p.m. The movie will begin after sunset.
Summer in the City concludes Saturday, August 15, with Symphony in the Cities at Mike Ward Community Park — Woodbridge. Enjoy family-friendly activities beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Pacific Symphony concert at 7 p.m. featuring popular classics, pop favorites, and patriotic music.

Make a Splash at the End of Summer

Close out summer with swimming and a movie at the annual Splash-In Movie & Recreation Swim Saturday, August 29, at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.
The pool opens at 6:30 p.m., followed by an outdoor screening of The Lorax at 7:15 p.m. Enjoy recreation swimming, diving boards, a water slide, and an in-water obstacle course.
Families can also exchange non-approved flotation devices for a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket for children ages 6 and younger, while supplies last.
Admission is $2.50 per child and $5 per adult.

Festival Notice for Great Park Neighborhood Residents

Daisy Chain Fields, a new music festival founded by Olivia Rodrigo, will take place Saturday, August 29, from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Great Park.
Great Park Neighborhood residents may notice event setup beginning Sunday, August 23, including temporary structures, staging, fencing, equipment deliveries, and increased activity. Event breakdown will continue through Wednesday, September 2.
Lane and street closures will be in place during the festival. Dash Passes will be available for residents who need access to Resident Access Only streets August 29. Passes provide access through traffic barricades but do not provide parking.

Ready, Set, School
Help prepare your child for kindergarten with Ready, Set, School. This recreation-based program helps children build self-esteem and cooperation while encouraging curiosity through play and curriculum-based activities. Children are introduced to numbers, colors, shapes, sounds, and name recognition.

Days: Weekdays
Time: 9 a.m.–Noon
Location: Northwood Community Center
Fee: $32 per day
Children must be toilet trained. Registration is available in person at Northwood Community Center.

Castle Kids
Castle Kids helps children build self-esteem, cooperation, and curiosity through play and curriculum-based activities. Children explore topics such as animals, cooking, science, friendship, and more in a fun and engaging environment.
The program is available for children enrolled in morning kindergarten or pre-kindergarten at Brywood, Santiago Hills, and Northwood elementary schools. Drop-off is available.
