Irvine City Council Appoints Sean Joyce as City Manager
The Irvine City Council has appointed Sean Joyce to serve as Irvine's City Manager for approximately one year, effective August 10.
Joyce returns to the role as current City Manager Sean Crumby prepares to retire August 14 after more than 30 years of public service. Crumby has served as Irvine's City Manager since July 2025, overseeing a year of innovation, growth, and community investment.
Joyce previously served as Irvine's City Manager from 2005 to 2018 and brings more than 35 years of municipal government experience. During his tenure, he helped guide the City through the 2008 recession, strengthened Irvine's financial reserves, expanded human services programs, and advanced major fiscal initiatives benefiting the community.
Since retiring in 2018, Joyce has served as interim city manager for several Southern California cities, including Cypress, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, San Clemente, and South Pasadena.
Joyce holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public administration from California State University, Fullerton.
He is a product of Irvine’s public schools, having first come to the City with his family in 1971. He and his wife, Veronica, have made Irvine their home since 2004.

55th Anniversary Homecoming Dance
Celebrate 55 years of Irvine Saturday, August 8, at 5:30 p.m. at the Great Park with a homecoming-themed dance party where past meets present on the dance floor.

The City of Irvine is applying for California's Prohousing Designation and community input is an important part of the process.
Review the draft application, provide feedback, and join us August 5 for an informational webinar. The webinar will provide information on what the Prohousing Designation means for Irvine and how it could strengthen the City's competitiveness for state funding that supports affordable housing.

Walk, Ride, and Celebrate Irvine's Newest Trail Connection

Be among the first to experience the Jeffrey Open Space Trail (JOST) Bicycle & Pedestrian Bridge during a community ribbon-cutting celebration Tuesday, August 11, from 9 to 10 a.m.
The new 1,200-foot bridge is the largest bicycle and pedestrian bridge in Irvine, creating an important connection in a regional trail system that stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Santa Ana Mountains and Cleveland National Forest.
Guests are encouraged to ride their bikes to the celebration and be among the first to walk or cycle across the bridge.

Professional Baseball is Coming to the Great Park

Professional baseball is coming to Irvine. The City of Irvine and Innovation Baseball Partners have announced a new Pioneer Baseball League (MLB Partner League) franchise that will begin play at the Great Park Baseball Stadium in summer 2027.
The team will offer an affordable, family-friendly experience featuring professional baseball, interactive entertainment, and diverse food and beverage options. Clear the Shelters and Photo Fundraiser Return
|

Support pets in need all month long at the Irvine Animal Care Center. During the nationwide Clear the Shelters campaign, August 1–31, adoption fees will be waived for the center's longest-resident pets.
You can also support the annual Photo Fundraiser by submitting your favorite pet's photo for a chance to be featured in the 2027 Irvine Animal Care Center wall calendar. Photo entries are $25, voting is $1 per vote, and proceeds benefit programs that provide enhanced care and lifesaving opportunities for animals in need.

Friday, August 1, Pacific Symphony's SummerFest 2026 presents Back to the Future in Concert. Watch the beloved 1985 film on the big screen while Pacific Symphony performs Alan Silvestri's iconic score live in sync with the movie under the direction of conductor Scott Terrell. Audiences will also hear approximately 20 minutes of new music composed by Silvestri exclusively for the live orchestra presentation.
