Roadway Improvements and Traffic Advisories

April 29–May 6, 2026


In addition to the projects listed below that may impact your commute, you can find information on work being done to enhance our City on the Capital Improvement Projects Map and the Road Construction Map.


Irvine Boulevard Closure for CicloIrvine: An Open Streets Event

Irvine Boulevard will be closed between Culver Drive and Parkwood for CicloIrvine: An Open Streets event Saturday, May 2, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Street closures will begin early Saturday and remain in place through the evening. In addition, Milazzo south of Irvine Boulevard, and Yale Avenue between Park Place and Northwood will also be closed.

Most driveways along the CicloIrvine route will be closed from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. No street parking is allowed along the route. 

Access to The Groves will be available via Parkwood.

South Yale Corridor Improvements Project Community Meeting

The City of Irvine will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at University Community Center to provide an update on the South Yale Corridor Improvements project and invite community feedback. 

The project aims to reconfigure the roadway to accommodate Class IV separated bikeways on Yale Avenue between the I-405 Freeway and University Drive. It will enhance safety and connectivity for people who walk, bike, drive, and take transit, and it will improve connections among City of Irvine bike trails.

Bike Trail Closures

Temporary trail closures will be in place while tree maintenance is underway on the following trails:

  • San Diego Creek Trail between Sand Canyon Avenue and State Route 133
    Monday, May 4, through Thursday, May 7, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • University Trail between Ridgeline and the I-5 Freeway
    Friday, May 8, and Monday, May 11, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Eastbound Main Street Closure for OC Marathon

Eastbound Main Street between Red Hill Avenue and Sunflower will be closed Sunday, May 3, from 5 to 10 a.m. for the OC Marathon.

Shady Canyon Bike Trail Closure

Sections of Shady Canyon Trail will be closed through Friday, May 8, while work occurs to create a smoother, safer trail. 

The paved trail will undergo a 2-inch grind and asphalt overlay to address cracking and improve the overall quality of the trail. While work is underway, both the paved and unpaved trails will be closed, and the closures will be in effect 24 hours a day. We appreciate your patience as we make these important upgrades.

Harvard Avenue & Michelson Drive Intersection Improvements

One eastbound and westbound lane on Michelson Drive at Harvard Avenue will be closed as work continues on the Harvard Avenue and Michelson Drive Intersection Improvements project. 

This phase of work will begin Wednesday, May 6, and will continue through September. Work will occur Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This intersection widening project will enhance traffic flow through the intersection and improve signal timing coordination along the Harvard Avenue and Michelson Drive corridors.

The City is removing and replacing asphalt pavement, curb and gutter, curb ramps and, sidewalk, as well as modifying traffic signal equipment behind temporary traffic control delineators and permanent K-rail lane closures. The project is anticipated to be complete this fall.

Woodbridge Neighborhood Street Rehabilitation and Slurry Seal

As part of the Street Rehabilitation Program, the City is performing slurry seal and striping operations along West and East Yale Loop, Yale Avenue, Warner Avenue, and Alderwood in the Woodbridge neighborhood.

Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 5, and continue Wednesday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. along the arterial streets. These dates reflect the most current construction information, but are subject to change, weather permitting.

Street Rehabilitation and Slurry Seal - Woodbridge Community

College Park and Colony Park Neighborhood Street Rehabilitation

As part of the Street Rehabilitation Program, the City is performing pavement rehabilitation on local and residential streets in the College Park and Colony Park neighborhoods.

Work occurs weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on residential streets and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on arterial streets through June. 

Every effort will be made to complete the project efficiently and minimize disruption to the community. Please note that access to streets and driveways may be temporarily restricted while work is underway. Parking within the neighborhoods may also be limited during construction activities; vehicles must be parked outside the posted work areas until construction is complete and signage is removed. Access to businesses and private streets or communities will be maintained throughout the project.

Slurry Seal

Jamboree Road and Main Street Intersection Enhancements

The Jamboree Road and Main Street intersection project is underway with work occurring weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The project, which will continue through winter, will widen and enhance the intersection and reduce traffic congestion on Jamboree Road and Main Street. Specific improvements include lengthening left turn lanes, removing islands at southwest and southeast corners, modifying the traffic signal system, implementing drainage, water quality, and street lighting upgrades, and installing Class II bike lanes. 

Every effort will be made to keep traffic flowing and minimize disruptions, but delays should be expected. Please consider using alternate routes.

Main

Woodbury Neighborhood Street Rehabilitation

Sidewalk, curb ramp, and miscellaneous concrete and accessibility improvements are underway on both arterial and local streets throughout the Woodbury neighborhood as part of the Street Rehabilitation Program. 

Work occurs weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on residential streets and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on arterial streets through June.

Parking within the neighborhood may also be limited during construction activities; vehicles must be parked outside the posted work areas until construction is complete and signage is removed. Woodbury neighborhoods Street Rehabilitation

Northbound State Route 55 Dyer Road On-Ramp Extended Closure

Orange County Transportation Authority crews are reconstructing the northbound State Route 55 (SR-55) Dyer Road straight on-ramp, which requires an extended closure of the on-ramp through Friday, May 1, at 5 a.m.

I-5 Freeway Improvement Project Ramp Closures

The Orange County Transportation Authority, in partnership with Caltrans, is improving the I-5 Freeway between the I-405 Freeway and State Route 55 to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and improve travel.

Crews continue to carry out roadway excavation and electrical work along the northbound and southbound I-5 Freeway, which requires the following ramp and lane closures:

  • Wednesday, April 29, 10 p.m. to Thursday, April 30, 5 a.m.
    Eastbound Tustin Ranch Road outside lane at I-5
    Northbound I-5: Tustin Ranch Road on- and- off-ramps
    Northbound and southbound I-5: Lanes adjacent to the HOV lanes between Tustin Ranch Road and State Route 55

  • Thursday, April 30, 10 p.m. to Friday, May 1, 5 a.m.
    Eastbound Tustin Ranch Road outside lane at I-5
    Northbound I-5: Tustin Ranch Road on- and- off-ramps
