Plant It Forward: New Tree Programs for Arbor Day
In celebration of Arbor Day, the City of Irvine is launching two programs to help grow the urban forest: the Sponsor a Tree Program and a Residential Tree Giveaway in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.
Starting April 21, the Sponsor a Tree Program allows residents, families, and organizations to fund the planting of a tree in a park or other public space for $400 — creating a lasting tribute while helping expand the City’s tree canopy. Interested individuals can complete the Tree Sponsorship form and explore the interactive map, where available trees and sponsored trees — along with dedication messages — are displayed.
Also beginning April 21, the Residential Tree Giveaway Program will offer free trees to qualifying Irvine residents for planting at home. Participants can reserve climate-appropriate trees and receive guidance for planting and care. Learn more about the program and how to reserve a tree.
Both programs are part of the City’s Plant It Forward Initiative, supporting a healthier and more sustainable community.

April 24: Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day
Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day is observed each year on April 24 to honor the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Beginning in 1915, an estimated 1.5 million Armenians lost their lives.
The date commemorates the arrest of Armenian leaders in Constantinople (now Istanbul), an event widely recognized as the start of the genocide. In the years that followed, Armenians were forced from their homes and faced widespread violence and loss.
This day is a time to remember those affected, honor survivors, and raise awareness.
