Protecting the Future of the Great Park
Over the past few weeks, crews have carefully relocated and planted the iconic Ficus trees that inspired the name Canopy. These mature trees will provide shade and create a welcoming space for dining, shopping, and gathering when The Canopy opens at the Great Park in late 2026.
The Canopy project is a collaboration between the City of Irvine and Almquist Development + Investment. The Canopy itself is owned by Almquist, while the City partnered with them on the placement of the historic Ficus trees to preserve their legacy and create a new connection between the Great Park Sports Complex and The Canopy.

The test will coincide with a test of the regional notification system, AlertOC, which provides time-sensitive emergency notifications to home, cell, or business phones. To receive alerts and participate in the upcoming emergency alert test, register at AlertOC.com.
