Lane Closures on Culver Drive and Alton Parkway

The City is entering the final phase of construction for the Culver Drive and Alton Parkway intersection improvement project, which will enhance traffic flow through the intersection and improve signal timing coordination along the corridors when it is complete in September.

There will be multiple lane closures in both directions along Culver Drive and Alton Parkway this week, as the City paves the intersection.

Work will take place through Friday, August 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. At certain times, left-turn traffic movements will be restricted and only one through lane of traffic movement will be maintained.

Significant traffic delays are anticipated. Motorists are strongly advised to use alternate routes and follow posted detours prior to reaching the intersection.

JOST Bridge Construction Impacts to the I-5 Freeway

As work continues on the Jeffrey Open Space Trail (JOST) Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge, falsework steel beams and plywood forms will be removed over and across the I-5 Freeway. This will require multiple nighttime lane closures and full freeway closures September 8–26.

All work will occur from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. During the second week of September, the following closures are planned:

Monday, September 8, and Tuesday, September 9
Northbound and southbound I-5 Freeway lane closures.

Wednesday, September 10, and Thursday, September 11
Southbound Jeffrey Road off-ramp and southbound I-5 Freeway lanes closures.

Friday, September 12, and Saturday, September 13
Southbound I-5 Freeway full closure from Culver Drive to Jeffrey Road.

Walnut Avenue Improvements

The City will be performing concrete sidewalk repairs and asphalt pavement rehabilitation on Walnut Avenue from Myford Road to Culver Drive.

Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 2, and continue through Friday, January 9. Work will occur weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Every effort will be made to keep traffic flowing and minimize disruptions during the work, but delays should be expected, and motorists should consider using alternate routes.

State Route 55 On-Ramp Extended Closure

Orange County Transportation Authority crews are reconstructing the southbound State Route 55 MacArthur Boulevard loop on-ramp, requiring an extended closure of the ramp. The on-ramp is closed and is expected to reopen to motorists by 5 a.m., Friday, August 29.

Detour signs have been posted. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before traveling through the area. View freeway detours.

State Route 73 Closures

The following nightly ramp closures in Irvine will continue on State Route 73 (SR-73) through Thursday, August 28, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

• The northbound SR-73 Bonita Canyon Road on-ramp.
• The southbound SR-73 Bonita Canyon Road off-ramp.
• The southbound SR-73 Bison Avenue off-ramp.
• The southbound SR-73 Bison Avenue on-ramp (9 a.m. to 6 a.m.).
• The southbound SR-73 MacArthur Boulevard on-ramp.
• The southbound SR-73 University Drive off-ramp.

In addition, Newport Coast Drive on-ramp will be fully closed through Thursday, August 28, from
10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and the northbound State Route 73 (SR-73) Bison Avenue on-ramp will be fully closed through Thursday, August 28, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

State Route 133 Closure

The southbound State Route (SR-133) connector northbound I-5 will be fully closed through Thursday, August 28, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
