Share the Way: Suggested Routes to School Open House
The community is invited to an open house Thursday, September 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Deerfield Community Center, 55 Deerwood West, to view updated draft Suggested Routes to School maps and potential improvements for safer travel around schools.
Suggested Routes to School is a partnership between the City of Irvine, Irvine Unified School District, Tustin Unified School District, and local schools to create safer conditions around schools and encourage students, parents, and staff to walk, bike, or roll to school.
Since last fall, the City has gathered input through neighborhood visits, a community survey, and a virtual meeting. Draft recommendations now include 45 updated maps and proposed improvements for each public school in Irvine.
Register to attend and learn more at cityofirvine.org/sharestheway.

Robots Help Map Accessibility in Irvine
The City of Irvine is taking an innovative step to make our community safer and more accessible.
The City maintains more than 9,000 curb ramps, 950 miles of sidewalk, 400 transit stops, 64 public buildings, and 68 public parks — and is committed to ensuring they are accessible for all, in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Starting this month, in partnership with Bureau Veritas and Daxbot, robots equipped with GPS and sensors will inspect curb ramps and sidewalks throughout the City. The data collected will help prioritize future improvements and provide valuable insight into the challenges faced by people using wheelchairs.
Robots will begin in the southern part of Irvine and work north over several weeks, Monday through Friday, during daytime hours. Their locations will be monitored in real time, with a field technician nearby to address any issues.
If you see a Daxbot in your neighborhood, please let it safely complete its work and avoid blocking its path.
Learn more at cityofirvine.org/daxbot.
2025 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan Update
The City of Irvine is updating its 2020 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP), which identifies potential natural and human-caused hazards and outlines actions to reduce risks before disasters occur. The updated plan will continue to make the City eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants and state funding for hazard mitigation projects once formally adopted by the City Council.
Help us plan for a safer Irvine. Share your input by taking a short, anonymous survey on hazards and emergency preparedness. Your feedback will guide updates to the LHMP and help strengthen community safety.
