2026 Facility Reservation Requests Open in August
The City of Irvine will begin accepting facility reservation requests for calendar year 2026 starting in August. Requests are processed through the Community Services Department and prioritized based on user group categories to ensure fair and equitable access for all.
Reservation requests will open as follows:

Now Open — Irvine residents for private events

Monday, August 11, 8 a.m. — Irvine-based nonprofit organizations

Monday, August 18, 8 a.m. — All other groups, including nonresidents and for-profit businesses
Applications must include required documentation, such as proof of residency, nonprofit verification, or a valid Irvine business license, depending on the user category.

Float with the Flame at Wild Rivers
Join the Irvine Police Department for Float with the Flame, a Law Enforcement Torch Run aquatic event benefiting Special Olympics Southern California. The event will be held Saturday, August 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Wild Rivers.
Float along the Lazy River with the inflatable Flame of Hope and help raise funds and awareness for athletes with intellectual disabilities. This event celebrates fun, acceptance, and unity in our community.

Celebrate the Final Days of Summer in the City
As summer winds down, enjoy one last round of free, family-friendly events in Irvine parks this August. Bring your friends, family, and neighbors to enjoy Movies on the Lawn, live music, and the final performances of the season.
Movies on the Lawn Hicks Canyon Community Park Food trucks open at 6 p.m., and movies begin after sunset. Bring low-back chairs, blankets, and a picnic to enjoy the evening under the stars.
Summer Concerts Mike Ward Community Park – Woodbridge Concerts begin at 5:30 p.m. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic. Food will also be available for purchase.

Thursday Night Market Returns August 14 with Tropical Nights Theme
The Thursday Night Market is back at the Great Park! Presented by PSQ Productions in partnership with the City of Irvine, this weekly summer series brings the community together for an evening of local food, shopping, live music, and family fun.
Join us Thursday, August 14, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Great Park Live for Tropical Nights — an island-inspired celebration with festive entertainment, flavorful eats, and a vibrant marketplace. Admission is free and open to all ages.
Each Thursday Night Market features:
- Local food vendors serving global flavors
- Artisan and retail booths
- Live music and themed entertainment
- A Kids Zone with games and activities

Picture This: Irvine Animal Care Center Photo Fundraiser
The Irvine Animal Care Center’s annual Photo Fundraiser is underway. Submit your favorite pet photos and encourage friends and family to vote for them for a chance to be featured in the center’s 2026 wall calendar.
Entries are $25 per photo, and votes are $1 each. Proceeds support high-quality care and life-saving programs for animals at the center.
Photos with at least five votes will appear in the 2026 wall calendar, with the top 13 entries earning a full-page feature. Each participant will receive a complimentary calendar, with additional copies available for purchase.

Grocery Food Box Available for Eligible Adults August 14
The City of Irvine is providing a free Grocery Food Box to qualifying residents Thursday, August 14, at Heritage Park Community Center. Each eligible adult will receive a 30-pound box packed with essential groceries, including canned fruits and vegetables, meat, rice, cereal, and more.
Pickup will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. Reservations are required, and eligibility is based on income guidelines.

This Week in DE&I
There are many cultural and religious holidays celebrated and recognized throughout our community this month. Learn about some of the significant dates being observed in Irvine below and on our DE&I calendar.
August 7: Purple Heart Day — The City of Irvine recognizes Purple Heart Day, honoring U.S. military personnel who were wounded or lost their lives in service. These brave individuals are awarded the Purple Heart in recognition of their sacrifice.
August 9: International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples — Observed annually on August 9, this day raises awareness of the rights, achievements, and contributions of Indigenous peoples around the world, including their role in environmental protection. Learn more here.
August 9: Raksha Bandhan — Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu celebration of the bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters tie a decorative thread, or rakhi, around their brothers’ wrists as a symbol of love and protection. In return, brothers give gifts and pledge to protect their sisters.
