Irvine Public Library Grand Opening – August 3
Join us Sunday, August 3, for the grand opening of the Irvine Public Library. Celebrate with ribbon-cutting ceremonies, live performances, and family-friendly activities.
Heritage Park Library: 1–4 p.m.
University Park Library: 2–5 p.m.
Both locations will feature crafts, games, balloon animals, a sensory-friendly area, library card sign-ups, staff meet-and-greets, refreshments, and giveaways. Events are free and open to all ages. For more information, visit irvinepubliclibrary.org/events.

Heritage Community Park Master Plan Workshop
The City of Irvine invites the community to take part in the first Heritage Community Park Master Plan Workshop Monday, July 28, from 6–7:30 p.m. This interactive workshop offers residents the opportunity to help shape the future of Heritage Park through a guided walking tour, group discussions, and activities designed to gather community input.
Additional workshops will be held Thursday, August 21, and Thursday, September 18, from 7–8:30 p.m. at the Heritage Community Center multipurpose room. Each workshop will build off the previous session; residents are strongly encouraged to attend all three. All ages and abilities are welcome.

2025 National Night Out – August 5 at the Great Park
Join the Irvine Police Department for National Night Out Tuesday, August 5, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the Great Park Palm Court Arts Complex.
This free community event brings neighbors and public safety together for a safer, stronger Irvine. Meet Irvine Police officers and Orange County firefighters, explore police and fire vehicles, and enjoy interactive activities. Food trucks, community booths, and giveaways will also be available.
The Great Park is located at 8000 Great Park Blvd. Free parking is available in Lot 2.

Picture This: Irvine Animal Care Center Photo Fundraiser
The Irvine Animal Care Center’s annual Photo Fundraiser returns Friday, August 1. Submit your favorite pet photos and encourage friends and family to vote for them for a chance to be featured in the center’s 2026 wall calendar.
Entries are $25 per photo, and votes are $1 each. Proceeds support high-quality care and life-saving programs for animals at the center.
Photos with at least five votes will appear in the 2026 wall calendar, with the top 13 entries earning a full-page feature. Each participant will receive a complimentary calendar, with additional copies available for purchase.

Greg Price: Smooth Ripple Opens August 14 at Irvine City Hall
The City of Irvine invites the community to explore Greg Price: Smooth Ripple, a glass sculpture exhibition on view August 14 through December 12 at Irvine City Hall.
A free opening reception will be held Thursday, August 14, from 2–4 p.m., with an opportunity to meet the Irvine-based artist and learn about his work.
For over a decade, Price has transformed glass into bold, vibrant sculptures that capture ripples, waves, and organic shapes frozen in motion. His precise craftsmanship challenges traditional ideas of weight, texture, and form.
This exhibition is part of the City’s Art at City Hall program, which highlights local and regional artists through seasonal displays. Irvine City Hall is open 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Friday. Admission and parking are free. For details, visit artsinirvine.org/artatcityhall.

Movies on the Lawn Location: Hicks Canyon Community Park Food trucks open at 6 p.m.; movies start after sunset. Bring low-back chairs, blankets, and a picnic.

July 25 is National Drowning Prevention Day
Swimming is a fun way to stay cool during summer, but it can quickly become dangerous without proper safety measures.
Always swim with others, assign an adult to actively watch the water, and follow the ABCs of Water Safety:
- A – Active Adult Supervision
- B – Barriers
- C – Classes
You can also take advantage of the City’s Floatie Exchange program, which lets you swap non-Coast Guard-approved flotation devices for free, approved life jackets for kids ages 6 and younger. Learn more at cityofirvine.org/aquatics.

There are many cultural and religious holidays celebrated and recognized throughout our community this month. Learn about some of the significant dates being observed in Irvine below and on our DE&I calendar.
July 25: Hire a Veteran Day — National Hire a Veteran Day encourages employers to consider veterans for open positions. Veterans are highly trained, skilled, and ready to transition their experience to civilian careers.
July 26: National Disability Independence Day & Disability Pride Month — This day marks the 1990 signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which protects individuals with disabilities from discrimination and ensures equal access to employment, services, and communications. July 27: National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day — This day honors Korean War veterans and the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement on July 27, 1953, which ended the conflict after more than two years of negotiations.
