Summer in the City Continues with Free Community Events
Enjoy summer evenings at Irvine’s parks with free, family-friendly events continuing through August. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors to Movies on the Lawn, Summer Concerts, and Symphony in the Cities.
Movies on the Lawn Location: Hicks Canyon Community Park, 3864 Viewpark Avenue Food trucks open at 6 p.m.; movies start after sunset. Bring low-back chairs, blankets, and a picnic.

Irvine Public Library Grand Opening – August 3
Join us Sunday, August 3, for the grand opening of Irvine's refreshed Heritage Park and University Park libraries. Celebrate with ribbon-cutting ceremonies, live performances, and family-friendly activities.
Heritage Park Library: 1–4 p.m.
University Park Library: 2–5 p.m.
Both locations will feature crafts, games, balloon animals, a sensory-friendly area, library card sign-ups, staff meet-and-greets, refreshments, and giveaways. Events are free and open to all ages. For more information, visit cityofirvine.org/libraries.

Thursday Night Market Debuts at Great Park Live
The City of Irvine, in partnership with PSQ Productions, is launching a new Thursday Night Market at Great Park Live — a free weekly event featuring food, shopping, music, and fun for all ages.
The series kicks off Thursday, July 24, and continues every Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m.
Opening night will feature a Neon Street Feast theme, with live music by Mamase – A Tribute to the King of Pop.
Each week will include:
- Local food vendors
- Artisan shopping
- Live entertainment
- Kids activities
- Special vendor rates for Irvine businesses

Community Helpers Assisting Mature Persons In Our Neighborhood
Looking to make a difference? Spend time with an elder in the community! This unique volunteer opportunity pairs isolated older adults with friendly CHAMPION volunteers, who visit them in person and make care calls, offering companionship and support based on shared interests.
During five weeks of training, volunteers learn about the aging process and what it is like coping with the challenges of chronic illness. Volunteers will have the opportunity to practice building rapport, learn to set boundaries, and pick up techniques in communicating with someone who is experiencing mild memory loss. Other training topics covered include: City services available for older adults, fall prevention, and home safety tips.

July 18: Nelson Mandela International Day — Nelson Mandela Day honors the legacy of a global leader who stood for justice, dignity, and equality. In recognition of his 67 years of service, people are encouraged to spend 67 minutes doing something positive for their communities.
July 25: Hire a Veteran Day — Thursday, July 25, is National Hire a Veteran Day — a reminder for employers to consider veterans for open jobs. Veterans are highly trained and bring valuable skills to the workplace.
