Roadway Improvements and Traffic Advisories

July 9–16, 2025


In addition to the projects listed below that may impact your commute, you can find information on work being done to enhance our City on the Capital Improvement Projects Map and the Road Construction Map.


Myford Road Rehabilitation — Dow Avenue to Michelle Drive

The City of Irvine will be working with the City of Tustin on rehabilitation and pavement improvements along Myford Road as part of a joint effort to improve paving conditions. Asphalt pavement, curb and gutter, curb ramps, and sidewalk will be replaced and work will be done on Irvine Ranch Water District's water infrastructure, manhole covers, and other utility adjustments.  

Construction is scheduled to begin Friday, July 11, and continue through September. Work will be done weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Every effort will be made to keep traffic flowing and minimize disruptions during the work, but delays should be expected, and motorists should consider using alternate routes.

Myford Road Rehabilitation — Dow Ave to Michelle Dr

Annual Street Rehabilitation and Slurry Seal

The City will continue pavement rehabilitation of public streets in West Irvine, North Park, and North Park Square neighborhoods. The next phase of work for this project includes the application of slurry along Trevino Drive, Congress Place, View Park Avenue, Commerce, Exchange, and El Camino Real in the vicinity of school areas and main entrances to the neighborhoods.

Work began Monday, July 7, and is expected to be complete on July 25.

Crews will be working weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on residential streets and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on arterial streets.

Every effort will be made to complete this essential work quickly to minimize inconvenience to the community.

State Route 55 On-Ramp Extended Closure

Orange County Transportation Authority crews will be paving asphalt along the northbound State Route 55 (SR-55) MacArthur Boulevard straight on-ramp, which will require an extended closure of the on-ramp Thursday, July 10, at 9 p.m. through Monday, July 14, at 5 a.m.

Detour signs will be posted in advance. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before traveling through the area. View freeway detours.


Northbound State Route 73 Bison Avenue On-Ramp Closure

The northbound State Route (SR-73) Bison Avenue on-ramp will be fully closed through Friday, July 11, at 5 a.m.

Eastbound Detour: Turn left on MacArthur Boulevard and slight right to take the on-ramp to the northbound SR-73.

Westbound Detour: Turn right on MacArthur Boulevard and slight right to take the on-ramp to the northbound SR-73.

State Route 133 Closures

The following nightly ramp closures in Irvine will continue on State Route 133 (SR-133).

  • The southbound SR-133 connector to northbound I-405 Freeway will be fully closed through Thursday, July 10, at 6 a.m. and from Friday, July 11, at 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m. 

    Detour: Exit on Barranca Parkway and continue straight to Gateway. Turn right on Irvine Center Drive and then turn right to take the on-ramp to southbound I-405.

  • The southbound SR-133 Barranca Parkway on-ramp will be fully closed through Friday, July 11, at 5 a.m.

    Eastbound Detour: Turn right on Irvine Center Drive and slight right to take the on-ramp to northbound I-405. Keep right to take the connector to SR-133.

    Westbound Detour: Turn left on Irvine Center Drive and slight right to take the on-ramp to northbound I-405. Keep right to take the connector to SR-133.

  • The northbound SR-133 Laguna Canyon Road connector to I-405 will be fully closed through Thursday, July 10, at 5 a.m. and from Friday, July 11, at 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m.

    Detour:
    Exit on Barranca Parkway and continue straight to Gateway. Turn right on Irvine Center Drive and then turn right to take the on-ramp to southbound I-405.

  • The southbound SR-133 connector to northbound I-5 Freeway will be fully closed through Friday, July 11, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

    Detour: Exit on Irvine Boulevard and turn right. Turn left on Sand Canyon Avenue and turn right to take the on-ramp to northbound I-5.
