Jamboree & Michelson Pedestrian Bridge ProjectThe City is beginning construction this month on the Jamboree & Michelson Pedestrian Bridge, which will enhance pedestrian safety, relieve traffic congestion, and serve as a gateway monument for anyone entering the Irvine Business Complex. The City will be removing and replacing asphalt pavement, curb and gutter, curb ramps, and sidewalk. Elevator towers, stairs, bridge decks, and stainless steel supports will be installed, and traffic signal equipment will be modified. Work will be done behind temporary traffic control delineators and permanent K-rail lane closures. Phase 1 began Monday, June 23, and will continue through October. Work will occur weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Phase 1 will involve temporary lane closures in both directions of Jamboree Road and Michelson Drive. At the end of Phase 1, the southbound Jamboree Road to westbound Michelson Drive right turn lane will be closed. The entire project is anticipated to be complete in summer 2027. Every effort will be made to keep traffic flowing and minimize disruptions, but delays should be expected. Please consider using alternate routes when possible. Current work includes grinding existing pavement, grading, construction of the proposed asphalt concrete pavement, and striping. Work occurs Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting. Additional parking is available off of Harvard Avenue and San Juan. The current construction phase has a significant impact on the availability of parking spots near the Civic Center entrance. Access to the perimeter drive aisle, accessible parking spaces, and EV charging stations will be available as safety permits.
