National Mosquito Awareness Week is June 15–21
Mosquito season is here, and it’s important to stay safe. The City of Irvine encourages residents to take simple steps to prevent mosquito bites and reduce breeding around homes.
Invasive Aedes mosquitoes — also known as "ankle biters" — are active in Orange County and can spread diseases like dengue and Zika. You can help protect yourself and your family by:
- Dumping standing water around your home
- Fixing leaky sprinklers and cleaning gutters
- Using insect repellent with DEET or other EPA-registered ingredients
- Wearing long sleeves and pants, especially at dawn and dusk
- Keeping window and door screens in good shape
Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control provides a wide range of resources to help residents take an active role in mosquito control. Visit ocvector.org for more information.
