The new Irvine Public Library is set to open in early August, and planning is already underway to grow and enhance the library system. You’re invited to attend an upcoming community meeting to share your ideas and help shape the future of Irvine’s libraries — whether it’s the location, building design, or spaces. Your input will be essential in ensuring that future branches and improvements reflect the needs and values of our diverse community.
Help us build a library system that serves everyone in Irvine — now and for generations to come!
The meetings will be held the following dates and locations from 6–7:30 p.m.:

 Honor Service Members at the Field of Valor
The City of Irvine, in partnership with the Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee, invites the community to honor veterans, active duty service members, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice during the Field of Valor. The flag display will be on view July 1–13 at the Irvine Civic Center Lawn.
Residents may sponsor a Field of Valor flag in honor of a loved one. Each 3-by-5-foot flag is mounted on a 10-foot pole and individually illuminated. Flag sponsorships are $65 and available on a first-come, first-served basis through June 20. Sponsorship proceeds benefit the Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee.

Irvine Named 2024 Tree City USA: Arbor Day Foundation Recognition
The City of Irvine has been named a 2024 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, recognizing its commitment to planting and caring for trees that support a healthy, sustainable community.
To earn this designation, Irvine met four standards: maintaining a dedicated tree board or department, having a tree-care ordinance that guides responsible management, investing at least $2 per resident in urban forestry, and holding an annual Arbor Day celebration to promote tree awareness and community involvement.

 Temporary Pump Track Celebration Event at Great Park –– Ride, Create, and Celebrate
The City of Irvine invites the community to the Temporary Pump Track Celebration Event at the Great Park Promenade Saturday, June 7, from noon to 4 p.m. This family-friendly event celebrates Irvine’s newest pump track with hands-on activities, music, and more.
Enjoy live music by Head Wide Open from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and stop by community booths featuring themed crafts, games, face painting, and ramp demos from Skate Dogs. Food will be available at The Layover (adjacent to the promenade in Great Park Live) and a dessert truck near the event area.
The Great Park Temporary Pump Track will be open daily from June 2 to June 15, 7 a.m. to dusk.

Interiors of MCAS El Toro –– Preserving History Through Photography
The City of Irvine invites the community to visit Interiors of MCAS El Toro, a new Art at City Hall exhibition opening Monday, June 9. This photography exhibit features images from The Legacy Project, a group of six photographers who documented the transformation of Marine Corps Air Station El Toro during its decommissioning in 2003.
The exhibit offers a rare look inside the former base’s interiors and highlights its transition into the Orange County Great Park, now the Great Park.
Art at City Hall exhibitions are free and open to the public during regular City Hall hours: • Monday–Thursday, 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. • Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Join the Community Bike Ride — June 6
As part of the Irvine Mobility Summit, the City of Irvine invites residents to take part in a Community Bike Ride Friday, June 6. This free ride is open to all ages and encourages residents to explore Irvine’s bike-friendly routes while promoting healthy, sustainable transportation.
The Community Bike Ride wraps up three days of events focused on improving mobility, reducing car dependency, and creating safer, more connected streets in Irvine.

Creative Arts Studio Festival
Celebrate creativity at the Studio Arts Festival Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Heritage Community Park. This annual event features more than 100 local and regional artists showcasing original, handcrafted works in ceramics, painting, sculpture, jewelry, photography, fiber art, glass, and more — all available for purchase.

Free Compost Giveaway May 31 at Portola Springs Community Center
Irvine residents are invited to pick up free compost Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to noon at Portola Springs Community Center, 900 Tomato Springs. Up to three pre-packaged 20-pound bags will be available per household on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. This Week in DE&I
There are many cultural and religious holidays celebrated and recognized throughout our community this month. Learn about some of the significant dates being observed in Irvine below and on our DE&I calendar.
June: Pride Month — Pride Month honors the LGBTQIA+ community and commemorates the 1969 Stonewall riots. It is a time to celebrate progress, promote inclusion, and support equal rights for all.
June: Caribbean American Heritage Month — This month recognizes the history, culture, and contributions of Caribbean Americans, whose influence is reflected in art, music, business, and more.
June: Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month — Join the effort to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Wear purple and support research and education throughout June.
June 2: Indian Citizenship Act — Passed in 1924, this act granted U.S. citizenship to Native Americans born in the United States — a significant step in recognizing their rights.
June 4–9: Hajj — Hajj is a sacred pilgrimage to Mecca and one of the five pillars of Islam. The City of Irvine extends its well wishes to those observing this important tradition.
