Irvine Animal Care Center to Host Low-Cost Pet Vaccine Clinic

The Irvine Animal Care Center is partnering with HEART to offer a low-cost vaccine clinic for cats and dogs. The clinic will be held Tuesday, March 25, and Tuesday, April 22, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 6443 Oak Canyon. HEART’s mobile clinic will be in the center’s parking lot.

Irvine Animal Care Center to Host Foster Donation Drive Underway

Support animals in need by donating to the Irvine Animal Care Center’s Foster Donation Drive through March 31. Donations help provide essential supplies for foster kittens, puppies, and animals in recovery.

Items needed include:

• Breeder’s Edge powdered formula
• Mother & Babycat cat food (wet and dry)
• Nursing kits
• Other essential care items

Irvine to Host Compost Giveaway at the Great Park

As part of Earth Month 2025, the City of Irvine will host a Compost Giveaway Saturday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Great Park, Parking Lot 8 (next to Wild Rivers).

Receive up to three free bags of compost (20 pounds per bag), provided by Tierra Verde Industries, while supplies last.

SCE Wildfire Mitigation Upgrades Completed within Bommer Canyon

As part of our efforts to minimize the risk of wildfires, the Landscape Maintenance team supported the completion of a multi-year wildfire mitigation project in Bommer Canyon, led by Southern California Edison (SCE). The project was launched in response to a 2019 wildfire caused by a failed power line and aimed to enhance fire safety in Irvine’s open space.

SCE hardened circuits and replaced overhead infrastructure with underground power lines to reduce wildfire risk. By summer 2023, underground installation was completed, and, as of this month, the final utility pole has been removed.

The Landscape Maintenance team helped maintain the area throughout the project, ensuring minimal disruption to the environment. Discussions with SCE continue to advance wildfire mitigation efforts across Irvine.

There are many cultural and religious holidays celebrated and recognized throughout our community this month. Learn about some of the significant dates being observed in Irvine below and on our DE&I calendar.

March 20: Nowruz — Nowruz marks the first day of spring and the Persian New Year. Celebrated for over 3,000 years, it symbolizes renewal with traditions such as cleaning, gift-giving, and special foods.

March 21: International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination — This United Nations-recognized day promotes racial equality and honors victims of the 1960 Sharpeville massacre. It encourages education and action against discrimination.

March 21: World Down Syndrome Day — This day raises awareness of Down syndrome, promoting inclusion and support for those with Down syndrome.
