2025 State of the City Address
The City of Irvine invites the community to the annual State of the City Address, delivered by Mayor Larry Agran. The Tuesday, March 11, event will take place at the Irvine Civic Center and begins with a free public reception at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Mayor’s address at 5:30 p.m.
Mayor Agran will provide valuable insights into the City's achievements over the past year and discuss upcoming projects and priorities that will shape Irvine’s future.

CicloIrvine: An Open Streets Event
The City of Irvine will host the second annual CicloIrvine: An Open Streets Event Saturday, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A 1.4-mile section of Campus Drive — from University Drive to Culver Drive — will be closed to vehicles and open for walking, biking, and rolling.
CicloIrvine promotes community engagement, sustainability, and active transportation while providing live music, art, and interactive activities.

Community Budget Meeting
The City of Irvine will host a community budget meeting Thursday, March 13, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at City Hall to provide an overview of the Fiscal Year 2025–27 Budget. Staff from the Administrative Services Department will present the budget process, answer questions, and gather input on community priorities.

Small Business Development Center Small Business Workshop
The City of Irvine, in partnership with the Orange County Inland Empire Small Business Development Center (SBDC), will host a free small business clinic Thursday, March 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Portola Springs Community Center.
Business owners can meet one-on-one with an SBDC consultant to discuss marketing, operations, financial assessment, and other business needs. Appointments are limited and available in 30-minute sessions. One ticket is available per business.

 Reduced Library Hours
The transition of library services to the City of Irvine is starting soon. As Orange County Public Libraries discontinues its management of Heritage Park Library, University Park Library, and Katie Wheeler Library, hours at these locations will be reduced in order to accommodate the shift in operations.
The new hours at Irvine library locations begin Tuesday, April 1:
- Monday–Thursday: 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
- Friday–Saturday: 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Sunday: Closed
Beginning May 16, Heritage Park Library and University Park Library will be closed to the public and will reopen as part of the new Irvine Public Library system. Additionally, Katie Wheeler Library will close to the public June 30 and reopen in early 2026.
The City will provide intentionally designed activities and events throughout the summer in anticipation of the launch of Irvine Public Libraries in early August.

Residential Lawn and Garden Equipment Rebate
A City ordinance now prohibits gas-powered lawn equipment for residents and businesses, including lawnmowers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, and trimmers.
To support the transition to electric equipment, rebates up to $250 are available for eligible purchases.

There are many cultural and religious holidays celebrated and recognized throughout our community this month. Learn about some of the significant dates being observed in Irvine below and on our DE&I calendar.
All March: Irish American Heritage Month — Honors the contributions of Irish Americans to U.S. history, culture, and society.
All March: National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month — Promotes awareness and understanding of the experiences of people with developmental disabilities.
All March: Women’s History Month — Celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political contributions of women. The 2025 theme is “Accelerate Action.”
March 4 and March 5: Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday — Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras, is a day of celebration before Lent, known for parades, music, and traditional foods.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a 40-day Christian period of fasting and reflection. Many Christians attend services and receive ashes on their foreheads as a symbol of repentance.
March 8: International Women’s Day — Recognizes women's achievements and promotes gender equality.
March 10: Harriet Tubman’s Birthday — Honors Harriet Tubman (1822–1913), an abolitionist and Union Army spy who escaped slavery and helped others gain freedom through the Underground Railroad. She later fought for civil rights and women’s suffrage.
March 13–14: Purim — A Jewish holiday celebrating the biblical story of Esther, who helped prevent the destruction of the Jewish people in ancient Persia.
March 13–April 15: Deaf History Month — Recognizes the contributions of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. Begins March 13, marking the founding of the first American School for the Deaf in 1817, and ends April 15, the birthday of Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, a leader in deaf education.
