Road Construction & Improvement Projects

In addition to the projects listed below that may impact your commute, you can find information on work being done to enhance our City on the Capital Improvement Projects Map and the Road Construction Map.

Annual Bridge Maintenance Project

Construction is beginning for the Annual Bridge Maintenance project Monday, February 24.

• Work on the bridges at Jeffrey Road and Irvine Boulevard will take place Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Work on the bridges at Culver Drive and Alton Parkway will take place Monday through Friday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The entire project is anticipated to be complete by mid-April.

Overnight Closure: Walnut Avenue, I-5 Freeway Ramps

As work continues on the next phase of the Jeffrey Open Space Trail Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge, Walnut Avenue south of Jeffrey Road and the southbound I-5 Freeway on- and off-ramps at Jeffrey Road will be completely closed on the following dates:

• Thursday, February 20, from 9 p.m. to Friday, February 21, at 7 a.m.
• Friday, February 21, from 9 p.m. to Saturday, February 22, at 7 a.m.

Access to area residences and businesses will be maintained; however, there will be no access to the southbound I-5 Freeway on- and off-ramps or Caltrans Park & Ride during the overnight closure. 

The entire project is anticipated to be complete in March 2026.

Northbound MacArthur Boulevard On-Ramp Closure Extended

Work is underway to reconstruct the northbound State Route 55 (SR-55) MacArthur Boulevard loop on-ramp. Due to recent inclement weather, the ramp is now expected to reopen to motorists Thursday, February 20, at 5 a.m. 

Additionally, crews will be replacing the pavement on eastbound MacArthur, extending to the northbound MacArthur loop on-ramp. To accommodate this work, the outside lane on eastbound MacArthur will be closed continuously until Thursday, February 20, at 5 a.m. However, at least two lanes on eastbound MacArthur will remain open throughout the duration of the project.

The work is being done by the Orange County Transportation Authority in cooperation with Caltrans to improve 4 miles of SR-55 between the I-405 and I-5 Freeways. The project will add one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction to help with traffic flow and improve mobility. Please visit octa.net/55Construction for more information.
