City of Irvine Named a Top Workplace in Orange County for Fourth Consecutive Year
The City of Irvine was awarded a Top Workplaces 2024 honor, ranking 11th among large companies with 500 or more employees in The Orange County Register’s 17th annual list of Top Workplaces. Irvine is the only municipality recognized among 152 companies. Learn more about the recognition.

City of Irvine Implements Solar EV Chargers at Operations Support Facility
The City of Irvine has successfully installed three portable, solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) chargers, utilizing $333,830 in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funding.
The newly installed EV Arc chargers will support the City’s electric fleet, including the recently acquired EV street sweeper and Ford Lightning Public Works vehicle.
By offering off-grid charging, the systems bolster resilience and ensure continued fleet operations during grid disruptions or natural disasters.

January 1: Emancipation Proclamation Enacted
President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, during the Civil War. It declared that slaves in Confederate states were free and marked a key step toward ending slavery in the U.S.
January 6: Feast of the Epiphany
The Feast of the Epiphany, or Three Kings' Day, is celebrated January 6 to mark the visit of the magi to baby Jesus. The holiday, 12 days after Christmas, reflects on Jesus' identity as the son of God and ends the Christmas season.
