Road Construction & Improvement Projects

October 23–30, 2024

In addition to the projects listed below that may impact your commute, you can find information on work being done to enhance our City on the Capital Improvement Projects Map and the Road Construction Map.

Jeffrey/Alton Intersection Improvements

The City of Irvine has started construction on an intersection widening project that will enhance traffic
flow through the intersection of Jeffrey Road and Alton Parkway and improve signal timing coordination along both streets.

Phase 1 of the project will close the right turn lane and the bike lane in the southbound direction on Alton Parkway, south of the Jeffrey Road intersection. Work will be done Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through mid-November.

The project includes removing and replacing asphalt pavement, curbs and gutters, curb ramps, sidewalk, and modifying traffic signal equipment behind permanent K-rail lane closures.

The entire project is anticipated to be complete in May 2025.

A bike detour is in place to accommodate bicyclists' needs and pedestrian crossings while work is being done. Access to area residences and businesses will be maintained during this first phase of the project. Traffic control including K-rails will be utilized to close travel lanes and direct traffic around the work areas. The work will generate construction noise including equipment backup alarms and heavy equipment engines.

This phase of the project began Monday, September 30, and will be complete Tuesday, November 5, weather permitting. Work will be done entirely behind lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Every effort will be made to keep traffic flowing; however, delays should be expected and motorists should consider using alternate routes.
