Road Construction & Improvement Projects

September 18-25, 2024

In addition to the projects listed below that may impact your commute, you can find information on work being done to enhance our City on the Capital Improvement Projects Map and the Road Construction Map.

Cadence Class IV Protected Bikeway

The City of Irvine is making improvements to the City’s bicycle infrastructure with the construction
of Class IV protected bikeway, a bikeway reserved for use by bicyclists with a physical
separation between the bikeway and travel lanes. Work will be done to construct a protected bikeway on Cadence, between Chinon and Radial, Monday, September 23, through Tuesday, November 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Access to area residences and businesses will be maintained. The work will generate noise and travel lanes may be shifted or reduced to one-way traffic with flagging operation. No full closures are anticipated; however, drivers are advised to take alternate routes.

For more information, please email pm@cityofirvine.org or call 949-724-6676.

Cadence Bike Lane

Overnight Lane Closures on I-405 Freeway

Overnight lane closures will take place on the I-405 Freeway between the I-5 Freeway and Bear Street MondayFriday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through October.

This project will replace pavement slabs on the northbound and southbound I-405 Freeway.

Please note there will be loud noise related to this construction. Please follow all posted signs and traffic instructions. The work is weather-dependent and subject to change. Additional information on the project can be found on the Caltrans website

Cool Pavement Coating at San Juan and San Leon

The City of Irvine is implementing an innovative pavement coating pilot program to extend the life
of City streets and reduce the pavement surface temperature. The City’s Public Works & Sustainability Department will apply a second application of DuraShield Solar Reflective Grey pavement coating to San Juan and San Leon Monday, September 23, through Friday, September 27, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting.

Access to area residences and business will be maintained and one lane in each direction will remain open while work is underway; however, delays should be expected and motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes.

The Cool Pavement coating will reduce UV and heat damage to the underlying pavement; reduce water penetration into the pavement substrate; retain high friction in both wet and dry weather; and cure quickly. It will not affect driver glare.

For more information, please email pm@cityofirvine.org or call 949-724-6676.
