This Week in DE&I
There are many cultural and religious holidays celebrated and recognized throughout our community this month. Learn about some of the significant dates being observed in Irvine below and on our DE&I calendar.
September 15-October 15: National Hispanic Heritage Month September 16: Mexican Independence Day
National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 to October 15, celebrates the contributions and culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans, marking the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries. During this month, events such as art exhibits, cultural performances, and educational programs honor the diverse heritage of these communities across the U.S.
One of the key highlights is Mexican Independence Day on September 16. This day commemorates the 1810 "Grito de Dolores" by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, which sparked the Mexican War of Independence. It is celebrated with parades, festivals, and patriotic events throughout Mexico.
Join us in celebrating these observances at Fiesta Latina en Irvine, September 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Great Park.
