Recycle Your Food Waste with Compostable Bags
The City of Irvine has taken a significant step toward sustainability by allowing compostable bags in the green bin. Residents can now conveniently dispose of organic materials such as food scraps and lawn clippings using these eco-friendly bags.
This initiative not only simplifies waste disposal but also enhances the City's composting efforts, turning organic waste into valuable compost. By adopting this green approach, Irvine continues to lead the way in environmental stewardship, making it easier for everyone to contribute to a cleaner, greener community. Swap Out Your Single-Use Plastics
The City of Irvine is actively educating the community on how businesses, residents, and City facilities can replace single-use plastics with reusable or non-plastic items. Doing so reduces business costs, attracts new customers, and improves ecological health and sustainability.
Find recommendations for food and beverage foodware in the new Plastic Alternative Guide.

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint with XeroHome
The City of Irvine, in partnership with Southern California Edison, is proud to offer its residents access to XeroHome, a free program that helps single-family homeowners identify ways to reduce their home energy bills and lower their carbon footprint. This online tool helps residents develop personalized plans to make their homes more energy efficient and easily find local, state, and federal rebates to help make energy upgrades possible.
Irvine residents can use the site to find which energy upgrades are best suited for their home — including energy efficiency, insulation, electrification, or rooftop solar options — and explore any combinations of those for their household.
