Electric Lawn & Garden Demonstration at City Hall
The City of Irvine continues to pursue innovative ways to support residents as we work toward making Irvine a truly climate-smart City for the future. As part of the City’s ongoing climate action efforts, a free community electric lawn and garden equipment demonstration was hosted in May.
The City partnered with South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) and American Green Zone Alliance (AGZA) to showcase electric lawn and gardening equipment in action, share the benefits of transitioning from gasoline equipment, and let guests try out the lawn tools themselves for a hands-on learning experience.
Transitioning from gasoline to electric lawn equipment benefits air quality and resident health, decreases neighborhood noise, and saves households money. Irvine community members are encouraged to explore making this change to support our climate for generations to come.

Organics Food Recycling Update
As of April 1, you may now place your food waste in a paper bag or compostable bag! Food waste can also go directly on top of your yard waste in your green lid organics cart.
Here are some tips to reduce the “yuck” factor:
- Layer your organic waste with yard clippings in your organics cart.
- Store your food waste in bags in your refrigerator or freezer until your trash day.
- Add baking soda to your food waste bags.
- If using a food pail, line with paper towels to absorb the liquids. These paper towels can be tossed in your green container.
