Cultural Partners Coming to the Great Park
The Great Park will be the new home for Orange County music, art, dance, and history after ground was broken on the Cultural Terrace. As part of the Great Park Framework Plan, this milestone will bring the City of Irvine one step closer to realizing our vision for what will be one of the largest municipal parks in America.
When complete, the Cultural Terrace will include 200,000 square feet of cutting-edge museum, educational, and performing arts facilities. It will be one of Southern California’s most dynamic cultural, historical, and educational centers, honoring Irvine’s rich diversity, its military heritage, and its promising future.
We are excited to be partnering with several outstanding organizations that will shape the Cultural Terrace's vibrant landscape:
- Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum
- Orange County Music & Dance
- Pretend City Children's Museum
- South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, which is spearheading efforts to establish an Asian American History museum.
The community was able to meet these partners, as well as existing and future partners at an open house to learn more about the vision, plans, and next steps of the park. View photos from the groundbreaking and the open house.

Great Park Live Construction Begins
The City of Irvine has begun construction in the Western Sector of the Great Park, near the traffic circle at Corsair and Phantom and on the north and west sides of Parking Lot 2. The area previously known as the North Lawn, is being developed into a temporary amphitheater, Great Park Live. The temporary venue will open in summer 2024 and serve as a home for live music, community events, and as a food and beverage hub through the summer of 2026.
Construction activities will occur from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday (including Memorial Day) through June 30, 2024. Construction is minimal and should not impact Great Park neighborhoods, motorists, or the use of the Great Park sports fields after school.

This Week in DE&I
There are many cultural and religious holidays celebrated and recognized throughout our community this month. Learn about some of the significant dates being observed in Irvine below and on our DE&I calendar.
May: Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Asian/Pacific encompasses all of the Asian continent and the Pacific Islands of Melanesia (New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, and the Solomon Islands), Micronesia (Marianas, Guam, Wake Island, Palau, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru and the Federated States of Micronesia) and Polynesia (New Zealand, Hawaiian Islands, Rotuma, Midway Islands, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, French Polynesia, and Easter Island).
The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.
May: Jewish American Heritage Month Jews first arrived on American soil in 1654 in New Amsterdam. In search of better opportunities and lifestyles, they made the U.S. their new home base, finding in it a space where they could openly practice their faith and lead their lives freely. In April 2006, the whole month of May was dedicated to recognizing and honoring Jewish contributions and achievements.
