In addition to the projects listed below that may impact your commute, you can find information on work being done to enhance our City on the Capital Improvement Projects Map and the Road Construction Map.


Traffic Signal Shutdown at Alton Parkway and Morgan

As part of the ongoing traffic signal permit project, the traffic signal at the intersection of Alton Parkway and Morgan will be shut down Wednesday, May 8, and Thursday, May 9. The traffic signal is scheduled to be turned off and/or placed in red flash mode between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Every effort will be made to keep traffic flowing and minimize disruptions, but delays should be expected; motorists should consider using alternate routes.


Woodbridge Streets Slurry Seal Project

The Irvine Ranch Water District will be applying slurry seal on several streets in the Woodbridge neighborhood as part of its recycled water pipeline project. The work, weather permitting, will take place through Wednesday, May 15, weather permitting. Through traffic and driveway access will be maintained. Please see the map below for more information.

SR-261 Lane Closures

Lane closures of State Route 261 (SR-261) will take place in Irvine through Friday, May 10, weather permitting. Please follow all posted signs and traffic instructions for safety.

The following locations will be closed to rehabilitate pavement and refresh traffic striping in the area:

Wednesday, May 8
  • Northbound SR-261 #1 (left) lane from Walnut Avenue to Portola Parkway, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Southbound SR-261 #2 (right) lane from Portola Parkway to Walnut Avenue, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Thursday, May 9
  • Southbound SR-261 #2 (right) lane from Portola Parkway to Walnut Avenue, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Friday, May 10
  • Northbound SR-261 #2 (right) lane from Walnut Avenue to Portola Parkway, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

SR-241 Overnight Directional Closures

Overnight directional closures will take place through Thursday, May 9, on State Route 241 (SR-241) as part of the 241 Pavement Repair Project. 

The work schedule is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, and other construction-related issues. Please follow all posted signs and traffic instructions for safety. 

  • Northbound SR-241 will be closed between SR-133 and SR-261/Santiago Canyon Road split, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning.
Detour: Exit northbound SR-241 at Portola Parkway; turn left onto Portola Parkway; take Portola Parkway to SR-261; turn right for northbound SR-261/SR-241 or turn left onto southbound SR-261. 

SR-133 Closures

Northbound 133 Connector to Northbound I-5 Freeway

The northbound 133 Toll Road connector to northbound I-5 Freeway will be fully closed 11
p.m.-4 a.m. through Friday, May 10, for electrical work.

Detour: Exit on Irvine Boulevard and turn left. Turn left onto Sand Canyon
Avenue and continue straight. Turn right to take the on-ramp to the northbound I-5 Freeway.

Northbound 133 Connector to Northbound 241

The northbound 133 Toll Road connector to northbound 241 Toll Road will be fully
closed 10 p.m.-6 a.m. through Thursday, May 9, for paving operation.

Detour: Slight right to take the 133 Toll Road connector to southbound 241 Toll
Road. Exit on Portola Parkway and turn right. Continue straight on Portola
Parkway and turn right to take the on-ramp to the northbound 261 Toll Road.
Continue northbound to reach the 241 Toll Road.

Southbound 133 Connector to Northbound I-5

The southbound 133 Toll Road connector to the northbound 5 Freeway will be fully closed 10
p.m.-5 a.m. through Friday, May 10, for miscellaneous work.

Detour: Exit on Irvine Boulevard and turn right. Turn left onto Sand Canyon
Avenue and continue straight. Turn right to take the on-ramp to northbound I-5 Freeway.
