Grab your bikes, shoes, scooters, or anything other than a car, and attend CicloIrvine this Saturday, May 4, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
The event celebrates community, connection, and clean air through the City of Irvine's first-ever car-free Open Streets Event along Barranca Parkway. Visit cityofirvine.org/cicloirvine to see an event map, and view information about street closures, car access, and parking.
You can take the Irvine CONNECT shuttle to the event, too. The stops closest to the event are Barranca at Creek and W Yale Loop at Barranca. We hope to see you there!

Join us at the Great Park Open House
Join us Tuesday, May 7, and discover the future of your reimagined Great Park. You are invited to come to Hangar 244 from 4 to 7 p.m. to learn about the organizations and businesses the City is partnering with as we continue to build the park.
Get a firsthand look at the careful planning going into the park’s development. Meet representatives from museums, like Pretend City, and performing art organizations, like Orange County Music & Dance, who will unveil their new locations at the Great Park and provide opportunities for the community to grow, learn, and flourish in cultural and artistic ways.
The Open House is your chance to connect, share your thoughts and ideas, and truly be a part of this exciting journey. No registration is required for this free event. Learn more about the Plans for Gateway Preserve
Can you imagine what will be developed at the Gateway Preserve? The City of Irvine is hosting an informational meeting about the Resource and Recreation Management Plan (RRMP) being updated for Gateway Preserve and the City's northern Open Space Preserve Thursday, May 16, 6-8 p.m. at Portola Springs Community Center.
The City is updating the current plan in partnership with the nonprofit Irvine Ranch Conservancy, which manages the City's Open Space Preserve, to include new trails, visitor facilities, habitat restoration, and other management elements related to the new Gateway Preserve.
The meeting will share information and maps about the planned Preserve, and the current status and timeline for the RRMP. Ask questions and learn more from staff and technical experts.

Ride the Irvine CONNECT Shuttle to Travel in Town
Hop aboard the Irvine CONNECT shuttle to travel Irvine in a sustainable way.
Irvine CONNECT provides free shuttle service from the northern end of Irvine to Irvine Station, with over 70 stops in between, seven days a week. Shuttle frequency is every 20 minutes.

The City of Irvine and UC Irvine Baseball invite you to come out to the ballgame Friday, May 3, 6 p.m. at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark. City of Irvine Day offers discounted tickets for general admission grass seating and home-plate reserved seating are available at ucirvinesports.com/irvine.
Free Compost this Saturday
Mark your calendars for free compost. OC Waste & Recycling is hosting a compost giveaway in Irvine Saturday, May 4 from 7:30 a.m. to noon, while supplies last.
The giveaway will take place at:
- Bee Canyon Greenery at Frank R. Bowerman Landfill 11002 Bee Canyon Access Rd., Irvine
Residents should bring a shovel and container or bag to fill. Quantities are limited; staff will be on-site to assist. Rain will cancel the event. For more information, visit OC Waste & Recycling's website.

May 1: International Labor Day International Labor Day, also known as May Day, is observed May 1 every year. It is a global holiday that celebrates the achievements and contributions of workers around the world.
The origins of International Labor Day can be traced back to the late 19th century when workers in the United States and Europe organized rallies and protests to demand better working conditions and fair wages.
May 5: Cinco de Mayo Cinco de Mayo is a yearly celebration held May 5, which commemorates the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
