SR-261 Lane and Ramp Closures
The California Department of Transportation has scheduled lane and on- and off-ramp closures that will take place on State Route 261 (SR-261) in Irvine through Saturday, April 27, pending any weather delays, to repave and refresh traffic striping.

Freeway Lane Closures
Wednesday, April 24 – Friday, April 26
- Northbound SR-261 from Walnut Avenue to Portola Parkway.
- Closure of #2 (right) lane 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Southbound SR-261 from Portola Parkway to Walnut Avenue.
- Closure of #2 (right) lane from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
On- & Off-ramp Closures
Walnut Avenue
- Northbound SR-261 on-ramp from Walnut Avenue.
- 10 p.m. to midnight April 24 and 26.
- Southbound SR-261 off-ramp to Walnut Avenue.
- 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. April 25.
Irvine Boulevard
- Northbound SR-261 on- and off-ramps to/from Irvine Boulevard.
- Midnight to 3 a.m. April 25 and 26.
- Southbound SR-261 on- and off-ramps to/from Irvine Boulevard.
- Midnight to 3 a.m. April 24.
Portola Parkway
- Northbound SR-261 on- and off-ramps to/from Portola Parkway.
- 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. April 26.
- Northbound SR-261 on- and off-ramps to/from Portola Parkway.
- 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. April 27.
- Southbound SR-261 on- and off-ramps to/from Portola Parkway.
- 10 p.m. to midnight April 24.
Bus Stop Improvements: Yale-Barranca
In an effort to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act standards, the City is constructing and installing new bus stops along the Yale Avenue-Barranca Parkway Corridor.
Construction is expected to start Monday, April 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will continue until project completion in fall 2024. Every effort will be made to keep traffic flowing and minimize disruptions during the work, but single lane closures will occur and delays should be expected. Motorists should consider using alternate routes.
Full Freeway SR-55 Closure in Tustin and Irvine Detours
Southern California Edison is installing new power lines across all lanes of State Route 55 (SR-55) from Friday, April 26, at 10 p.m. to Saturday, April 27, at 5 a.m. Northbound and southbound SR-55 between Edinger Avenue and Dyer Road, as well as westbound Warner Avenue over SR-55 will be closed. On-ramps, off-ramps, and HOV connectors will be closed, as well:
- Southbound Dyer Road off-ramps.
- Northbound Dyer Road on-ramps.
- Southbound Edinger Avenue on-ramp.
- Southbound McFadden Avenue on-ramp.
- Southbound I-5 to southbound SR-55 HOV connector.
- Southbound I-405 to northbound SR-55 HOV connector.
- Westbound Warner Avenue over SR-55.
The detours for this closure will carry traffic into Irvine. Please see the map below for closures and detours.
Turtle Rock Pond Improvements
We are working to enhance the effectiveness and durability of the spillway adjacent to the pond at Turtle Rock Community Center.
Construction on the spillway is expected to take place Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 10, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting. Some parking stalls near the pond will be temporarily closed while work is underway.

Weekend Slurry Seal Schedule
As part of this year’s Annual Street Rehabilitation and Slurry Seal project, the City of Irvine will apply Slurry Seal this Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be affected at the locations below; please use alternate routes both dates.
- San Carlo – Harvard Avenue to San Marino.
- Paseo Westpark –Hamilton to Main Street.
- San Leandro – Paseo Westpark to Culver Drive.
