Irvine Climate Action And Adaptation Plan Update

The City of Irvine is actively developing its first Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP),
which sets ambitious but achievable emissions reduction targets for the City and lays out a
pathway to achieving climate goals across both municipal operations and the community.

Residents and businesses have provided feedback through various outreach efforts. Feedback includes a desire for improved public transportation networks, increased electric vehicle charging infrastructure, reduced waste generation, increased renewable energy, and building electrification and energy efficiency financing.

The CAAP continues to be developed, with more information on next steps expected in early 2024.

Take Our Survey

Provide your input on potential CAAP actions by taking our online community survey by December 8. Share your feedback with us and send to your networks and peers to do the same. Visit cityofirvine.org/climate for more resources and ways to get involved.

Irvine Homes Can Reduce their Carbon Footprint with XeroHome

xerohome

The City of Irvine, in partnership with Southern California Edison, is proud to offer its residents access to XeroHome, a free program that helps single-family homeowners identify ways to reduce their home energy bills and lower their carbon footprint. This online tool helps residents develop personalized plans to make their homes more energy efficient and easily find local, state, and federal rebates to help make energy upgrades possible.

Irvine residents can use the site to find which energy upgrades are best suited for their home — including energy efficiency, insulation, electrification, or rooftop solar options, and explore any combinations of those for their household.

Try it out today at xerohome.com.

Holiday Tree Recycling Begins December 26

xmas tree

WM, the City’s residential waste hauler, will collect and recycle Christmas trees beginning December 26 for three consecutive weeks at no charge.

After the three-week period, residents can cut their tree and place the pieces in their green waste cart with the lid completely closed or call to schedule a bulk pickup by special flatbed trucks. Trees will also be collected at the curb.

• Trees taller than 6 feet must be cut in half.
• Please remove all decorations, including lights, ornaments, tinsel, and tree stands.
• Flocked trees will be collected but not recycled.

Multi-family residences without curbside trash service may take their trees to
Sunset Environmental at 16122 Construction Circle West, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Trees will be accepted between December 26, 2023, and January 12, 2024. Please bring a driver’s license or utility bill to show proof of Irvine residency.

SB 1383 Recycling Supports Organic Composting

tvi picture

In collaboration with WM, the City of Irvine is continuing its work to inform residents about Senate Bill (SB) 1383, the organic waste recycling program.

Did you know that when your organic waste is collected, it gets sent to Tierra Verde Industries (TVI) located right here in Irvine at the Great Park, where it gets turned into organic compost? Once the composting process is complete, it is distributed back to the community by landscapers or at a compost giveaway.

Thank you for putting in the effort to separate food waste. Please continue placing all food and yard waste in an organics bin. If you would like to take a tour at TVI to see how your food waste gets turned into organic compost, or if you have additional questions, email environmentalprograms@cityofirvine.org.

More resources, including fliers and videos, can be found at cityofirvine.org/sb1383.
