California Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383) is a law that requires every business and resident to recycle their organic waste. Organic waste includes green waste, food waste, meat, bones, dairy, fruit and vegetable scraps, food-soiled napkins and paper towels, and yard clippings. Organic waste can be recycled into compost or processed into renewable energy at waste facilities.
The organic waste recycling program for Irvine residents will begin April 1, 2023. Program details will differ among three-cart, two-cart, and multi-family complex residents, so please pay close attention to the information you receive in the mail or from your property manager in the coming weeks. This new organic waste recycling program is an immediate, actionable step everyone can take to reduce waste and respond to climate change! Residents can prepare for the program by familiarizing themselves with separating food scraps from regular trash.

The City of Irvine has embarked on developing its first Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP). The plan will set ambitious but achievable emissions reduction targets for the City and lay out a pathway to achieving our climate goals across both municipal operations and our community.
The CAAP should reflect the priorities and values of the Irvine community. Therefore, gaining input from stakeholders throughout the process is a key part of CAAP development. An Online Community Survey will help us gather input from our community on potential greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategies, mitigation measures, and help us better understand community priorities. Input from the survey will be used in combination with feedback from our public workshops to inform the adaptation and mitigation measures in the draft CAAP. Additionally, if you would like staff to present on the CAAP to a local community organization or group, contact environmentalprograms@cityofirvine.org.
Instruction on how to provide your feedback is included on the survey webpage. Please visit irvinecaap.consider.it to access the survey.
The event will span one hour and feature award-winning chef Katie Chin, who will demonstrate how to make various ethnically-diverse dishes on an all-electric induction cooktop and discuss the benefits from switching from a gas range to an all-electric. The event will be co-hosted by Switch is On, and demonstrate the capabilities and benefits of induction cooking.
Wednesday, April 26, from 6 - 7 p.m. Irvine Fine Arts Center Registration is required.
