Save the date for the City of Irvine Climate Action & Adaptation Plan (CAAP) Public Workshop. Join us at 6:15 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, at the Irvine Civic Center — CTC for an in-person workshop where staff will review goals of Irvine's CAAP, share information on the municipal and community greenhouse gas inventory, and provide a chance for the public to interactively engage with the City and their peers around emissions reductions measures. Waste Management will collect and recycle Christmas trees beginning December 26 for three consecutive weeks at no charge. Trees will be collected at the curb and picked up by special flatbed trucks, or residents can cut their tree and place the pieces in their green waste cart with the lid completely closed.

• Trees taller than six feet must be cut in half.
• Please remove all decorations, including lights,
ornaments, tinsel, and tree stands.
• Flocked trees will be collected but not recycled.
Multi-family residences without curbside trash service may take their trees to
Sunset Environmental at 16122 Construction Circle West, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Trees will be accepted between December 26, 2022, and January 15, 2023. Please bring a driver’s license or utility bill to show proof of Irvine residency.

California Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383) is a law that requires every business and resident to recycle their organic waste. Organic waste includes green waste, food waste, meat, bones, dairy, fruit and vegetable scraps, food-soiled napkins and paper towels, and yard clippings. Organic waste can be recycled into compost or processed into renewable energy at waste facilities.
The organic waste recycling program for Irvine residents will be rolled out in early 2023. Program details will differ among three-cart, two-cart, and multi-family complex residents, so please pay close attention to the information you receive in the mail or from your property manager in the coming weeks. This new organic waste recycling program is an immediate, actionable step everyone can take to reduce waste and respond to climate change! Residents can prepare for the program by familiarizing themselves with separating food scraps from regular trash.

The pilot program Cool Irvine had an amazing first year in 2022. The program trained over 70 block leaders to lead 200 City households. Irvine residents embarked on this journey to make sustainable changes to their home and lifestyle, prepare for disasters, and work collaboratively with their neighbors.
There are a lot of exciting updates and workshops planned for 2023. If you got new electronics during the holiday time, take your old e-waste products to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center.
Leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients are considered Household Hazardous Waste. Products such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, and pesticides that contain potentially hazardous ingredients require special handling when you dispose of them. E-waste such as televisions, tablets, cell phones, and computers can also be taken to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center.
Irvine Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center is located at 6411 Oak Canyon, 92618.
Orange County residents can dispose of their Household Hazardous Waste items for free at any of the County's four Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers. All of the centers are open Tuesday–Saturday 9 a.m.–3 p.m. and are closed on rainy days and holidays.

Free Paper-Shredding Event is January 28
at Lakeview Senior Center
In partnership with the City of Irvine, Waste Management is hosting a free paper-shredding event Saturday, January 28, 9–11 a.m. at Lakeview Senior Center. Irvine residents can safely and securely dispose of up to five banker-size file boxes. The event is first-come, first-served and will end early if truck capacity is reached. Customers who wish to watch their paper be shredded will need to park in a designated area away from the truck and staff.
Lakeview Senior Center is located at 20 Lake Road in Irvine.
