Beacon Award

City of Irvine Receives Leadership & Innovation Award

The City of Irvine was selected for a 2022 Beacon Leadership & Innovation Award by the Institute for Local Government. The City received the award for its equity and engagement in sustainability and climate action through an in-home recycling service pilot project offered by Recycle From Home, which gives all residents access to convenient, in-home recycling services.

In partnership with the state agency CalRecycle, Irvine helped facilitate the Recycle From Home pilot program. CalRecycle provides funding for the program, which is Irvine’s authorized in-home recycling pilot vendor, and the City supports and promotes the program — one pathway to ensuring Irvine is a sustainable community.

Recycle From Home works by empowering customers to sort and prepare their CA-CRV recyclable items, and then schedule a pickup online at RecycleFromHome.com. Recyclables are picked up, weighed, and processed. Redemption is calculated for payment to residents electronically or as a mailed check. Learn more on our website

We Are Irvine

International Day of Peace

Each year, the International Day of Peace is observed around the world September 21. The United Nations declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. The 2022 theme for the International Day of Peace is “End racism. Build peace.”

Join the United Nations in ending racism and building peace through the City of Irvine We Are Irvine campaign. Join us as we take steps to embrace and celebrate diversity in all aspects of our community and foster an environment that is inclusive of all cultures, backgrounds, races, sexual orientations, and ethnicities.

Visit weareirvine.org to learn the ways in which the City is celebrating diversity, offering resources for our community, and learning new ways to help each member of our community thrive.
