New Director of Public Works & Transportation

Jaimee Bourgeois Named Director of Public Works & Transportation 

After a national recruitment, seasoned City of Irvine engineer Jaimee Bourgeois has been named Director of Public Works & Transportation for the City of Irvine.

Bourgeois has served as Irvine’s Interim Director of Public Works & Transportation since March of this year.

In her Director role, Bourgeois will oversee the Irvine Public Works & Transportation Department with more than 169 full-time employees and an annual operating budget of $95 million. The department is entrusted with developing, building, and maintaining public infrastructure and facilities, developing and implementing citywide sustainability policies, and serving as the staff liaison to the Transportation Commission. 

 
UCI Health Blood Drive

Give back to our Community by Donating Blood 

Help UCI Health meet the needs of their patients and the Orange County community by donating blood Wednesday, June 22.

 

Donate blood at Great Park between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and receive your choice of $10 Target or In-N-Out gift card, courtesy of UCI Health. Donors will also be entered into a drawing for two passes to Wild Rivers.

 

If you can’t make it this week, additional UCI Health Blood Drives will take place:

  • Tuesday, July 19

  • Tuesday, August 16

  • Tuesday, September 20

Solarize Irvine

Learn more about Solarize Irvine

In partnership with OC Goes Solar, the City of Irvine has launched Solarize Irvine to make going solar easier and more affordable for residents. Join the webinar Wednesday, June 22, at 7 p.m. via Zoom for a launch workshop to learn how to take advantage of benefits available to residents, including pre-screened contractor selection, free site evaluation and quotes, and a discounted price for solar panels, energy storage, and Electric Vehicle charging devices.  

 

Solarize Irvine is a partnership between the City of Irvine and OC Goes Solar, a non-profit group that makes solar energy and its components more affordable and accessible for residents.

Super Swim Lesson

Join the Super Swim Lesson June 24!

Kick off summer in the pool with the Irvine Super Swim Lesson, next Friday, June 24, at 5:30 p.m.

Adults and children of all swimming abilities are invited to participate in Irvine's largest group swim lesson in an effort to raise awareness for drowning prevention. 

Lessons begin at 6 p.m., followed by recreation swim that includes a water slide, giant inflatable, diving boards, and activities. At dusk, Encanto plays on the big screen. Lifeguards will be on duty. 

The event is for those ages 3 and older; children ages 6 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. For more information, call 949-724-6717.

 
Juneteenth

Celebrate Juneteenth at Great Park this Sunday

You are invited to the inaugural Juneteenth Freedom Celebration, hosted by the City of Irvine and BIPOC Orange County.

The free event will take place this Sunday, June 19, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. at the Great Park Palm Court, and will include: 

  • DJ and Live Performances

  • Food Trucks

  • Art Exhibition

  • BIPOC Marketplace

The celebration of freedom, hope, and joy honors the history and contributions of African Americans to the cultural fabric of our community and nation. 

 

Free parking is available on-site. Food trucks will be available for visitors to purchase food. For more details about entertainment, food options, and activities, visit cityorirvine.org/Juneteenth. While you attend, be sure to snap a photo and search “Irvine Juneteenth” under GIFS when posting on Instagram to show your pride and support for African American history.
