City of Irvine Wins 2021 Digital Cities Survey Award from Center for Digital Government

Government Technology

The City of Irvine received a 2021 Digital Cities Survey award from the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute focused on technology policy and best practices in state and local government.

Irvine ranked ninth place in the 250,000–499,999 population category for innovatively using technology to tackle social challenges, enhance services for the community, strengthen cybersecurity, and more. Irvine was recognized for:

  • Continuing to invest in its Transparency Portal, which provides residents with information on capital improvement projects and budget and finance news.
  • Enhancing digital services during the pandemic.
  • Providing Irvine residents an easy and accessible way to comment and participate in virtual City Council meetings.

The City will join all top-10 ranking cities in each of the five population categories to be honored during the Digital Cities Awards and Workshop event December 8.

50th Anniversary

Fun Fact for 50 Years of Incorporation

JOST

A stroll along the Jeffrey Open Space Trail (JOST) offers more than fresh air, tree-lined paths, and meadows – it provides a glimpse of Irvine’s history.

Displays along the 3.5 mile trail depict three historical eras. Mosaic tiles illustrate the area’s early history going back to the 1500s. Engraved panels and benches highlight the Irvine Ranch from 1864. There are also 14 beams along the trail, remnants of the Irvine Valencia Growers packing house that once stood there. Finally, the last section highlights our City from the late 1900s on.

You can learn more about the JOST, which runs parallel to Jeffrey Road from the 5 Freeway to Portola Parkway, at cityofirvine.org/jost.

To learn more about Irvine history, join us at the 50th Anniversary Symposium and Photo Exhibition Reception December 7 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Irvine City Hall. Details at cityofirvine.org/50th.
