Smoke-Free Irvine

Irvine is a Smoke-Free City

Help Irvine remain smoke-free! Smoking products of tobacco, e-cigarettes, vaporizers, and marijuana is prohibited in all public places including sidewalks, streets, and alleys as well as common areas of multi-unit residences including laundry rooms, play areas, and pools.

Unless otherwise noted by state or federal law, smoking is allowed in private residential properties, other than those used as a child care or health care facility subject to state licensing requirements; and within a moving or stationary vehicle, including a vehicle on a public street or right of way, or parked in a public place. Facts for 50 Years of Incorporation

James Harvey Irvine

Tomorrow would have been James Harvey Irvine’s 154th birthday! James, known as J.I., inherited the Irvine Ranch from his father, James Irvine, on his 25th birthday.

In 1892, J.I. married Frances Anita Plum, and together they had three children: Jase, Kathryn, and Myford. He formed the Irvine Company in 1894, two years after he inherited the land.

Over the years, J.I. transformed the ranch from a sheep ranch to an agricultural powerhouse. He died two months before his 80th birthday on his Montana ranch, and his son Myford took over the ranch.
