Clean Air Day Use

Take the Clean Air Day Pledge and
 Receive A Sustainable Product

October 6 is California Clean Air Day, which is built on the idea that shared experiences unite people to take action to improve our community health. By joining together for a unified day of action, we can create new habits to clear the air for all members of California’s diverse communities.

When you take the Clean Air Pledge, you commit to doing your part to clear the air through actions big and small such as: using natural all-purpose cleaners, buying produce locally, planting an indoor plant, and walking or biking to the store.

Take the Clean Air Pledge by October 11. Then, forward your confirmation email to environmentalprograms@cityofirvine.org to receive a prize while supplies last.

no Straw

No Straw November

Plastic straws are one of the leading plastic polluters of the ocean – help us change that! "No Straw November" was created to bring awareness to the many plastic straws being used once and then thrown away in a single month. Jr Ocean Guardians challenges you to refuse plastic straws the whole month of November and to keep a tally of how many straws you eliminated from potentially ending up in the ocean. The ultimate goal of "No Straw November" is to use the single-use plastic straw ban as a wake-up call to all the other plastic you unknowingly use in your life.

Please share this challenge with others and use the hashtag #NoStrawNovember on social media.

Cool City Challenge

City of Irvine Environmental Programs would like to invite residents to participate in the Cool City Challenge, a climate moonshot strategy – an ambitious, exploratory, and ground-breaking approach to reach community-wide and inclusive sustainability – to get the City of Irvine to carbon neutrality by 2030.

Developed by the Empowerment Institute, this initiative lays out a strategy for cities to reach community-wide and inclusive sustainability. In this model, the City of Irvine will work with community Team Leaders, who will create “Cool Blocks” within their sphere of influence.

City of Irvine staff will provide training materials and resources to the Team Leaders to guide them through this program.

Cool Block teams will meet, discuss, and implement sustainability concepts related to energy efficiency, water conservation, emergency preparedness, social justice, and more! You can view more about this at The Cool Block Journey | Cool Block.

If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering to support climate action in Irvine by joining a Cool Block Team, please contact EnvironmentalPrograms@cityofirvine.org
