Smile and Celebrate our 50th Anniversary!

50th Anniversary Photo Frame

We want to see you! New 50th anniversary photo frames are popping up around Irvine to help residents take part in our 50th anniversary celebrations.

One sign is installed at the Orange County Great Park between the Palm Court and Hangar 244 area, while the other remains on wheels, and will be placed at various City special events, with the potential to "tour" throughout the City.

If you come across a frame, snap a photo and post to social media using the hashtag #Irvine50thPhotos! Learn more about the City's 50th Anniversary at cityofirvine.org/50th

COVID Clinic

COVID Clinic Offers Testing in Irvine

The City of Irvine is now partnering with operator COVID Clinic to provide COVID-19 testing at City facilities for eligible individuals. Previous City of Irvine testing sites operated by 360 Clinic will now be operated by COVID Clinic, which aims to provide testing centers that are easily accessible to all.

Preregistration is recommended but walk-ins are welcome as availability permits. Testing is available when medically necessary and for travel, attending events, or other non-medical purposes. Find a list of testing locations and learn more at cityofirvine.org/covidclinic

Solar Permit

Solar Permit Process Simplified

Irvine residents are going solar, and the City is working to make the application and permit process for residential solar panel installation as quick and easy as possible. More than 900 permits have been issued in the past year and 90% of those were issued within one week of being submitted.

If you are considering adding solar panels to your home, the City offers information on submitting a building permit application at cityofirvine.org/solarpermit.

Silverado Fire

Know Your Zone Before an Emergency

The Irvine Police Department has expanded the use of evacuation zones beyond just those communities threatened by wildland fires following the Silverado Fire and the evacuation of nearly 90,000 Irvine residents in October 2020.

The City’s new map now includes all-hazard evacuation zones for the entire City. Irvine residents are encouraged to become familiar with their zone prior to an emergency. Also, the City will use this map in real-time during emergencies to communicate zones under evacuation or shelter-in-place orders. View the City of Irvine’s Evacuation Zone Map here.

Playground Sanitization

Keeping Playgrounds Clean

In an effort to ensure Irvine residents and visitors have a safe place to play and recreate, the City of Irvine has committed to a routine sanitization procedure on all City of Irvine playgrounds.

Staff sanitizes all playground equipment twice a week with an electrostatic sprayer, which uses a safe, food-grade disinfectant. This disinfectant kills the coronavirus within 30 seconds, and 99% of all other bacteria within two minutes. In addition, hand-sanitizing stations are on-site at all playgrounds for use while utilizing the park equipment.

Watch our video to learn more about the process.

50th Anniversary

Fun Fact for 50 Years of Incorporation

JasonLezak

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics kick off today. Over Irvine’s 50 years of incorporation, 57 athletes have been sent to the Olympics, including Irvine native Jason Lezak, who swam in four Olympic Games and took home eight medals. Lezak grew up in Irvine, graduated from Irvine High School, and frequented the pool at the City of Irvine’s William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center. In the 2008 Olympic men’s 4X100 freestyle relay, Lezak beat his opponent by 0.08 seconds –– giving the U.S. a world-record time and helping teammate Michael Phelps win eight gold medals that year alone. Lezak can be seen pictured here, when he visited the Irvine Civic Center in 2012.
