Orange County Great Park Drive-Thru Vaccination Clinic Closes

Vaccination Clinic
Vaccination Clinic 2
Vaccination Clinic 3

After nearly three months and more than 9,000 COVID-19 vaccines administered, the drive-thru vaccination clinic at the Orange County Great Park is now closed. This clinic wouldn't have been possible without our entire community coming together. We thank everyone who rolled up their sleeves and drove by to get their shot. We are grateful to Providence Health System for its partnership and to our Community Emergency Response Team volunteers and City staff who dedicated their time to ensure we could provide these vaccinations.

We look forward to bringing more vaccinations to our community through mobile clinics, with upcoming clinics planned at the Islamic Center of Irvine and Heritage Park Community Center. To access a list of clinics providing vaccines and a map of locations, go to cityofirvine.org/vaccine.

Stay Bite-Free This Summer

Warm summer temperatures and mosquitoes go hand in hand. With another active summer expected, the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District would like to remind residents about the dangers of mosquito-borne disease and raise awareness of preventative measures we must all take to help reduce the mosquito population.

Visit ocvector.org to learn mosquito control methods, tips on preventing bites, and how you can request an inspection of your property to eliminate breeding sources.

50th Anniversary

Fun Fact for 50 Years of Incorporation

Walnut packing house

Heads up! Irvine’s agricultural history began with growing beans, wheat, and barley – a success that led to the next venture: walnuts. James Irvine spent upward of $3-4 million to drill 1,200 wells for irrigation on the Irvine ranch. Between 1900 and 1905, the annual walnut harvest was about 22 tons! Mechanical shakers to remove the walnuts from the trees were not yet available, so workers had to use long poles to shake the trees – leading to several bops on the head.

The village of Walnut in Irvine, located just south of the 5 Freeway and the 261 Toll Road got its name from this important crop, which was produced until 1967, before being converted to citrus trees.
