City of Irvine

Our Doors are Open!

City of Irvine facilities are open to the public for in-person visits. While we have resumed many City operations to their pre-COVID-19 format, we are still operating a digital City Hall for those not ready to visit us in person. Please visit cityofirvine.org/reopenirvine to learn how you can conduct business with us and how we can serve you throughout the transition to a fully open economy.

Beginning Monday, June 21, all patrons entering City facilities without a mask must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 under CDC requirements. By entering City facilities without a mask, you attest that you are fully vaccinated.

Masks are required by all in any facility with childcare and on public transportation, including TRIPS.

We thank you for your patience as we closely follow the evolving situation.

Mosquito Awareness Week: Bite Back!

National Mosquito Control Awareness Week is next week! The Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District is here to help educate you on the dangers of mosquitoes and the importance of mosquito control in the prevention of disease. They offer the following tips:

  • Apply mosquito repellents to exposed skin before going outdoors; reapply as recommended.
  • Wear repellent containing DEET®, Picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
  • Close all unscreened doors and windows to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home or space; repair broken or damaged screens.
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and opt for lighter colored clothing.

50th anniversary

Fun Fact for 50 Years of Incorporation

Lyndon B. Johnson

Fifty-seven years ago, on June 20, 1964, 15,000 people gathered in an open field on The Irvine Ranch to witness history as President Lyndon B. Johnson visited Irvine for the dedication ceremony of the University of California, Irvine. Not only was this historical for the university, but it was the first time an active U.S. president had visited Orange County. Arriving via helicopter due to security concerns after John F. Kennedy’s assassination just six months earlier, Johnson addressed the crowd and visited the dedication plaque seen here, which has been installed outside the campus library.
