50th anniversary

Fun Facts for 50 Years of Incorporation!

Lion Country Safari

On June 16, 1970, Harry Shuster opened the Lion Country Safari tourist attraction near Moulton Parkway in Irvine. Visitors were able to experience a safari in their cars as they drove among the park's collection of wild animals. The most famous residents of the Lion Country Safari was an elderly, toothless lion named Frasier, who inspired 1972's movie Frasier, the Sensuous Lion. The park closed in 1984.
