Welcome to the Library Reading Corner for November 2025
A Note from City Librarian Elizabeth Saucedo:
During November, the only thing more enjoyable than seeing the leaves turn colors is seeing our community members turn the pages of their next favorite read. As themes of gratitude abound, the Library team wishes to extend our sincerest thanks to you, our patrons, for your continued support throughout the changes we have seen this year.
Some of these milestones have included relocating to GVL Express, our temporary home during construction; creating offsite programs (with Bookvan guest appearances!) in new neighborhoods; opening at a new facility at Buellton Library with indoor and outdoor event areas; and expanding our programming and enhancing our space at Solvang Library.
Your continued patronage throughout these transitions has meant the world to us, and we look forward to continuing to bring you daily doses of library joy as we finish the year strong with a suite of programming to inspire and delight.

Zip Books Returns November 19!
We are pleased to announce that our popular Zip Books program will be resuming on Wednesday, November 19! In September, the Library was notified that we were the award recipient of $15,840 in Zip Books grant funds from the California State Library. This special program provides patrons with access to print and audio materials not owned in our library collection. New this year, eBooks and eAudiobooks will also be available by request to the California State Library through their Palace Project app.
Stay tuned for more information coming your way in the next couple of weeks via the library website, social media, and a press release.
 Collection Update
We are fortunate to serve a community of active library readers, listeners, and viewers. Some recent changes may impact your borrowing experience. The updates below will help you continue to access information and resources.
Print Materials
The national vendor who has provided our print materials for many years will be concluding its operations at the end of this calendar year. As we work to establish services with a new supplier, we are also pursuing short-term solutions to get the latest new releases onto our shelves and into your hands. We appreciate your patience.
Digital Materials
The ability to check out eBooks and eAudiobooks means that patrons have greater access to library titles than ever before. As such, we have seen high rising usage of one of our most popular platforms, Hoopla Digital. Without a spending cap in place, over time costs have continued to increase unbounded. To manage these costs responsibly, a modest price cap was recently placed on our eAudiobook collection, meaning that some titles will no longer be available on this particular platform. We will continue to monitor costs and make adjustments to the available collection to best meet patron needs. In the meantime, if you don’t see a title listed on Hoopla, we encourage patrons to explore Libby as well as our full slate of online platforms to find what you need.
