Welcome to the Library Reading Corner for October 2025
A Note from City Librarian Elizabeth Saucedo:
Welcome to October, library patrons! Shorter days, chillier nights, and wafting scents of pumpkin can only mean that autumn is here, and with it a list of seasonal activities brimming with fun at your local library. From the cozy (Solvang Library Fiber Arts Club) to the spooky (Goleta Valley Library Horror Book Club) to the simply adorable (Buellton Library Stuffed Animal Slumber Party), this month offers a chance to gather with neighbors and friends around stories, crafts, and hobbies for all ages. Check out our special programs below, and bookmark the online calendar to keep up with new activities each month.
Visit our website at goletavalleylibrary.org to stay up to date with all our Library happenings, including our temporary library during construction, the tiny-but-mighty GVL Express, the upcoming launch of our capital campaign to raise funds for upgraded furnishings, and the Building Forward improvement project.
We appreciate your continued patronage of each of our libraries and look forward to seeing you soon!
Wishing you a happy and book-filled autumn,
Elizabeth & the Library Team

20th Annual National Friends of Libraries Week October 19-25
It’s National Friends of Libraries Week! Join us in celebrating 20 years of friendship and support for our Goleta, Solvang, and Buellton libraries! Thank you to all our amazing Friends of the Library members. Your support makes our service mission possible.
The Friends of the Goleta Valley Library
We would like to gratefully acknowledge the incredible former Friends President Corinne Horowitz for her energy and talent that she brought to this role for many years. Her presence and support are still felt by our staff as she remains on the Board, and we are so very thankful for all that she has done on behalf of our library patrons and broader community. Visit GVL Express (6500 Hollister Ave, Suite 105) to support the Friends of the Goleta Valley Library's ongoing book sale at our temporary location. Membership forms are available if you would like to become a Friend and join this dedicated group.
The Friends of the Library of the Santa Ynez Valley
The Friends are pleased to host a community reading program centered around the international bestselling novel The Five Wishes of Mr. Murray McBride. There will be opportunities to meet author Joe Siple while he is in town doing a Q&A at Santa Ynez High School and the Book Loft on November 5 and 6. For more info, fill out our form here.
The Friends of the Buellton Library
Join us in the Friends’ Room adjacent to Buellton Library (202 Dairyland Road) on Oct. 11 at 7pm for an inaugural free speaker series program featuring local author Gary Robinson, a Native American of Choctaw/Cherokee descent. His presentation will be based on his nonfiction book From Warriors to Soldiers and will cover little-known facts about Native Americans' service in the United States' armed forces, from the Revolutionary War to modern times. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase, and light refreshments will be served. For more info, email friendsofthebuelltonlibrary202@gmail.com.
