Welcome to the Library Reading Corner for July 2025
A Note from City Librarian Elizabeth Saucedo:
Happy summer greetings, library patrons! Our season of Summer Reading Program festivities is going strong across the Goleta & Santa Ynez Valley Libraries: Buellton Library is holding performances for the first time at its new building, Solvang Library had standing-room-only attendance at its magic show, and Goleta Valley Library has partnered with the Goleta Community Center to reach readers while in between library sites. We invite you to stay tuned for an official opening date announcement for GVL Express in the very near future! It will be wonderful to welcome our community to the library’s temporary home at 6500 Hollister Avenue, Suite 105. You can prepare for your visit with the GVL Express webpage. Thank you, library supporters, for your continued patience during this transition. We’ll see you soon!
Whether your summer plans include traveling far or staying local, take the library along for the ride with our eLibrary resources. Enjoy popular fiction on Libby, catch up on the news with The New York Times online, or relax with a movie on Kanopy. As beloved children’s character Arthur said best, “Having fun isn't hard when you've got a library card!”
Happy summer reading!
-Elizabeth Saucedo, City Librarian

 Summer Reading Success
The 2025 Summer Reading Program is off to a spectacular start across all our libraries! Goleta Valley Library held its first ever offsite kick-off event at Stow House and welcomed over 1,000 attendees, who enjoyed performances from musicians and hula hoop dancers, registered for Beanstack, and had some tasty treats from local food trucks. Buellton Library’s first summer in its new facility allows for onsite performances for the first time, and the community is delighted to participate. Solvang Library’s program is welcoming in patrons eager to see favorite shows and to check out books to earn their prizes. Teen volunteers at all the libraries are happy to chat with youth participants about their reading and award them coupons, craft kits, books, and other fun rewards through the close of the program on the last weekend in July.
