Welcome to the Library Reading Corner for September 2024
A Note from City Librarian Elizabeth Saucedo:
Welcome to another fun-filled month at the Goleta & Santa Ynez Valley Libraries! After a successful summer full of adventures in reading, we’re looking forward to bringing library services to our community with engaging programming and exciting outreach this month. You’ll see Goleta Valley Library staff at the Lemon Festival at the end of September, where you will be able to stop by our booth, pick up a book, and say hello to our team. Buellton Library staff will also be connecting with area schools following the closure of the library’s current location at 140 West Highway 246, which occurred on August 15 in preparation for the move to its future new home at 202 Dairyland Road.
We welcome you to visit us online for all the latest information on library services at each of our locations, including the Creek Week Art Reception at Goleta Valley Library, crafts and book clubs at Solvang Library, mobile services on the Bookvan, and much more.

Plus, did you know September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month? One of my favorite things to share is the Library Value Calculator, which estimates how much you can save by using your local library. September is the perfect time to sign up, renew, or dust off your library card in celebration of the innumerable ways that libraries enrich our lives. We look forward to seeing you at the library this month!

The Buellton Library’s last day of in-person service at its current location was August 14th. The City of Buellton oversees the library facility at 140 West Highway 246, and in early August provided a notice of closure to the City of Goleta (Buellton’s Library Services Provider). As the City of Buellton starts renovations to the existing library building for an expanded Senior Center, Buellton Library has now moved off the premises. The library’s new home will be on the historic Willemsen property located at 202 Dairyland Road, which is still under construction. Updates will be provided to the community as information is available.
Buellton Library staff have worked behind the scenes to pack up the library collection for storage while construction is finished. Please note the following impacts to service:
- The Buellton Library book drop is now closed. Library materials may be returned at any Black Gold library, including Solvang Library and Goleta Valley Library.
- Holds placed via the online catalog may be picked up at any Black Gold library location. Buellton Library is no longer listed in the catalog as a pick-up location for new holds.
- The Buellton Library collection of materials is no longer visible in the online catalog.
- All programs scheduled after August 14th have been cancelled.
Library staff are now pivoting to an outreach model of service that will include engaging storytimes, digital literacy resources, card registrations, and more. Please check our website for the latest details. Details and schedules will be posted as plans are finalized with our local community partners. When access to the new Buellton Library site is granted by the City of Buellton, staff will then redirect their focus to preparing for reopening the new facility and celebrating with the community.
We will miss seeing our patrons each day and look forward to providing service to the community via outreach during the transition between buildings. Online services such as downloads and streaming remain available. Additional information will be shared as soon as it is available. Questions about library services may be sent to goletavalleylibrary@cityofgoleta.org. For questions related to the facility, move, and closure, please contact City of Buellton City Hall at (805) 688-5177.
We look forward to serving you from a beautiful new facility soon!
