Welcome to the summer edition of the Reading Corner Newsletter! We’re glad you’re here and are excited to welcome you to another month of engaging and enriching library services.
Each year, our libraries invite patrons of all ages to explore the wonders of reading by participating in the Summer Reading Program. This essential program supports learners in between school years and helps to develop reading as a lifelong habit from an early age. Our Children’s Librarian and youth services team have been hard at work to bring a truly fun summer your way, with events ranging from magic shows to reptile visits and of course the beloved Stuffed Animal Sleepover! Read below for more exciting details.
As you read your way through the summer, be sure to stop by our New Books collection, where hundreds of recently published titles have been added for your use and enjoyment.
Popular DVDs and bestselling audiobooks are also joining the shelves so you can catch up on award winning films and TV series for your next movie night.
This month it’s also my joy to introduce you to the new Supervising Librarian at Goleta Valley Library, Lyric Nicolini! Lyric joined the library team on May 21 and brings with them an impressive background in youth services leadership and experience in a variety of library settings. They are enthusiastic about sharing all that the library has to offer with the community and are looking forward to meeting our many wonderful patrons, so feel free to say hello to Lyric during your next visit to Goleta Valley Library.

Saturday June 15 - Saturday July 27
The 2024 Summer Reading Program launches on Saturday, June 15 and runs through Saturday, July 27. There is so much fun in store for every member of our community. The way the program works is that youth and teens can earn prizes based on how many books or minutes they read during the program. Local businesses and organizations have once again contributed outstanding prizes that help motivate and encourage readers to reach and exceed their reading goals. Adults can complete an entry ticket for each book they read, which enters them into the library’s prize drawings. Free weekly events include crafts, hula shows, storytellers, puppet shows, and so much more! Check out the online events calendar for more details.
The program will run at Goleta Valley Library, Buellton Library, Solvang Library, and the Bookvan.
First Sunday of Every Month
Ice in Paradise has generously donated free skating admission on the first Sunday of every month in 2024 to patrons of the Goleta & Santa Ynez Valley Libraries!
Present your Goleta Valley Library or Santa Ynez Valley Libraries card at Ice in Paradise to receive free skating admission on the dates below. Skate rentals are not included. One library card per skater is required. Skaters must be ages 3+.
Remaining Free Admission Dates in 2024:

- July 7th
- August 4th
- September 1st
- October 6th
- November 3rd
- December 1st
Session times:
1:30 - 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
