Welcome to the Library Reading Corner for April 2023
Welcome to the April edition of the Reading Corner
As usual there is a lot going on at all of our libraries. We hope you will take advantage of our many different programs.
Thanks to everyone who attended the memorable Goleta Valley Library’s 50 Years at Fairview. We are excited to see what these next 50 years will bring.
Coming up next, we hope you will come to the Goleta Community State of the City on April 10 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Elks Lodge (150 N. Kellogg Ave). Come visit our library table and other city information tables, mingle with City Council, City Staff, and fellow Goletans. We encourage you to participate in our Q&A session to submit any questions you might have to the Mayor and Department Directors. It’s a night you won’t want to miss.
We will also be having a table at the Goleta Union School District’s Connecting Communities Event on April 6th from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the District Offices (401 N. Fairview Ave) that will provide families with free resources, information, and health screenings.
We have heard loud and clear: Our community craves connection, whether through programs, in-person interactions, or browsing materials at the library. We remain dedicated to providing free access to resources and programs that help patrons of all ages learn, grow, and flourish in every stage of their life.

What is the Zip Book Program? Let us share the latest way that you can get books that aren’t in our collection.
Patrons with a Goleta & Santa Ynez Valley Libraries card in good standing can complete a form to request books, large print books, or books on CD to be mailed directly to their home from an Amazon bookseller. Zip Books are purchased with grant funds made available through the California State Library, so payment is not required for your requests.
To be eligible for the Zip Book Program, your request must meet this criteria:
- Title is not already owned by the Goleta Valley Library, Solvang Library, Buellton Library or Isla Vista Bookvan
- Title must be available from Amazon for less than $50 in print or large print formats, or less than $75 in book on CD format.
- Requests are limited to FIVE books per household per month. There is no due date; items should be returned in-person to your home library when finished reading with a note that says "Zip Book Return." Please do not return Zip Books in the book drops.
Ready to get started? Complete our Zip Books Request form here.
Questions? Email zipbooks@cityofgoleta.org
This Project is supported in whole or in part by funding provided by the State of California, administered by the California State Library.
