Welcome to the Library Reading Corner for February 2022

A Note from Library Director Allison Gray:

Welcome to our first issue of The Reading Corner of the new year! It's already been a busy start for us at the Goleta, Buellton and Solvang libraries as we transitioned back to Sidewalk Service. We know that it can be hard to find new books, DVDs, and Books on CD when you cannot browse the shelves. In order to make it easier for you, library staff has been taking photos of the covers of every item that comes into the library and posting them on the Goleta Valley Library Facebook and Instagram pages. After browsing the covers, you can go to the online catalog and place holds on items that pique your interest. Some of my favorites so far this year are “The Every” by Dave Eggers, “We Hereby Refuse” by Frank Abe, and “Finding the Mother Tree” by Suzanne Simard.

Keep reading for the latest library news including changes to Black Gold, the Winter Reading Program happening now, this month’s special craft kit at Goleta Valley Library celebrating Black History Month, and more online programs available at each of the three branches. I hope to see you back in-person soon!

Goleta and Santa Ynez Valley Libraries Remain Black Gold Partners

The Goleta and Santa Ynez Valley Libraries want to inform patrons about changes to service now that Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo libraries have announced that they are leaving the Black Gold Cooperative system effective July 1, 2022. This means that their catalogs will become separate, and materials will no longer be shipped outside of these two library systems to the Black Gold member libraries. However, Goleta remains firmly committed to being a member of Black Gold. Please click here for what you should know about changes to Black Gold service. It’s also important that you update your online account password; information on how to do so can be found in the link above.

Buellton Bookworms - February 18

Come and join the online discussion with the Buellton Bookworms, a book club that talks, debates, and brings those together over a curated book. February's discussion will be talking about the book The Farm: A Novel, by Joanne Ramos, which pushes to the extremes our thinking on motherhood, money, and merit and raises crucial questions about the trade-offs women will make to fortify their futures and the futures of those they love. Join us using the Zoom link found in our online calendar or contact the Buellton Library at 805-688-3115. See you then!
