Join Us for the February 1 Virtual Goleta City Council Meeting
Happy Birthday Goleta! Topics include Proclaiming the City’s 20th Anniversary, District Elections and Sheriff’s Office Contract
We hope you will join us for Goleta’s City Council meeting held via Zoom on Tuesday, February 1, at 5:30 p.m. on the City’s actual 20th birthday! (Closed session begins at 4:30 p.m.). We encourage you to watch live and/or participate. Directions for how to do so can be found below. Items on the agenda include:
- City Council will proclaim the City of Goleta’s 20th Incorporation Anniversary. Read the proclamation here: https://tinyurl.com/27t4572f. Council will watch a Happy Birthday Goleta promo video in advance of the 20 Year Reflections Video debuting March 5, 2022, at the City’s 20 Year community celebration at Rancho La Patera & Stow House. We hope to see you there!
- Council will hold a public hearing to consider draft maps for City Council voting district boundaries and sequencing for district elections. The City is moving to district elections in November 2022. Since June 2021, the community has been invited to participate in the process of drawing district election boundaries for Goleta. Maps were due by January 6, and at the January 26, 2022, Public Engagement Commission meeting, the Commissioners reviewed and discussed the maps and made a recommendation to Council on their preferred maps. The public can still provide comment on the maps at this February 1 public hearing and the special Council meeting on February 3. Watch the Public Engagement Commission meeting here and visit drawgoleta.org/draft-maps to see and comment on the submitted maps. View the full staff report here: https://tinyurl.com/5bc6n2rj.
- City Council will discuss submitting a notice of dispute to the County of Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office over re-computation of compensation for Fiscal Year 2022-23. The City of Goleta contracts with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement services. The agreement includes provisions for making an annual adjustment in how much the City compensates the County for the quantity of services being purchased. For the current 2021-22 fiscal year, the City is paying an approximately 14.75% increase over the prior fiscal year’s compensation. The Sheriffs’ Office is asking for another approximately 13.38% increase for FY 22/23. As of January 27, 2022, the other Contract Cities (Solvang, Buellton, and Carpinteria) have authorized dispute resolution notices to be sent to the Sheriff’s Office.
